Chapter 22

Anais

After training for a while and deciding that I wasn't getting any further, I took a break and tried to get a little rest. After everything that had happened and knowing I would have to face Ludis eventually, I couldn't sleep.

I tried a couple of times but found myself tossing and turning. Even after snacking on some of the food from my pack and getting a drink from the mini bar, I couldn't get myself tired enough to go back to sleep. I just wasn't ready to do so.

This whole situation was crazy and when I wasn't thinking about Ludis and how creepy he was, I couldn't stop thinking about Leo and the way it felt to be his enthralled. I feared that I was addicted because there was a big part of me that wanted nothing more than to be in his presence for some reason.

This wasn't possible. I had to kill Ludis and then I had to go back to the academy. But I wasn't sure I liked the idea of leaving Leo entirely. He was amazing to be around.

Sighing, I got up again. The longer I stayed here, the more danger I was in of not leaving again and becoming addicted. I couldn't take the chance that I wanted this for all the wrong reasons. While I didn't know how addictive this was generally, I did know that it was addictive on some level.

As soon as I was up again, I chose a new outfit from all the ones that Leo had bought me. Almost all of them had some element of purple in them but the rest had green or pink. It was a strange set of colors, but I could appreciate the purple and pink especially.

I didn't have as many options for weapons with this dress, purple and pink colors intermingled in the patterns and elements of the dress, but I went back to the faithful purple boots. With them and the wire in my bracelet I would have to hope the few concealed weapons I had were enough if a fight happened.

Leo had given me more tools and I ran through the moves a few times again to try to get the muscle memory to work. Some of the moves came more naturally than others and I was fairly confident that if I continued to practice them at every chance I got, it wouldn't be long until they were stuck in my head.

With that, I did the only other thing I could and opted to go to the lounge. The sooner we found out exactly what Ludis was up to, the sooner I would get to end this and go back to the academy. I needed distance between Leo and I.

I didn't know if I could find the lounge again on my own, but I was certain that it had to be in one particular area of the ship given how much I had already explored and what I knew of it. It shouldn't be too difficult to find again.

After a little wandering and back tracking a couple of times when I wasn't sure, I found it again. There were men on the outside but either they recognized me, or I passed whatever criteria was needed for the doors to be opened because they had barely spotted me before one of them stepped to the side and pushed the door open.

I smiled on the way past, not sure if I should thank them or not. I didn't know if I wanted to truly be in the lounge again when I would almost certainly have to perform in some way, but Leo had said he would go here and I had no other way to continue this mission.

Knowing that this would all be over in two days one way or another I would keep hold of that and hope that it was enough. Just two days and then no more.

My heart sank as I looked around the lounge and didn't find Leo. He wasn't here yet and I had somehow got here first. Either that or he had left and in my wandering I had somehow missed him.

I considered leaving again, but before I could Ludis broke off from the group he was with and came over toward me. I got the impression that it would be rude to leave now and that I would have to endure whatever this was going to be.

For a moment I considered attacking the vampire and finishing my mission now. I knew I had the tools and could take him by surprise. Everything Leo had taught me played before my eyes as I imagined myself killing the turned creature.

Instead I found myself standing where I was, waiting for him to come to my, my head lifted high and my body waiting to see what I needed to do.

If nothing else, Leo and his alliance and interest in me had given me something I had been missing for a while.

Confidence.

Ludis came right up to stand in front of me, then looked me over in an exaggerated way. Still I didn't say or do anything, but waited for him to say what he wanted.

"I will admit that Drew knows what to dress you in and he has good taste."

"Yes. He does." I didn't show the deference I had earlier despite knowing he would expect it.

It got his attention and he looked up at me, meeting my gaze.

"What is it you see in Drew?" Ludis asked.

"It's not what I see in him. It's what he sees in me and what he's willing to offer to get it. I could tell you that I'm eager to be an enthralled and do as I'm told all the time, but it would only be partially true."

"That's very... different, of you." Ludis lifted an eyebrow.

I stepped a fraction closer, hoping he'd see this for an attempt to offer something with a much more interesting flare. "He understands my skills and what I offer him. He called me an alpha submissive. Someone who in every other area of life is in charge and yet still finds she needs to let go. But only to someone who truly has the power and skill to deserve that level of submissive."

Ludis tilted his head to the side and looked me over again. I let him walk around me, trying not to show my revulsion as he considered what I might be able to do for him. He was weighing up if I could be his submissive and I hoped that the earlier conversation we had could be continued.

Not that I wanted to be his, but I needed him to think I was at least considering it.

"I already told you that in two days time, I will have all the power anyone could possibly want. I will own everything around you." Ludis reached up and stroked my shoulder, running his fingers over my skin.

I looked down briefly, showing a little bit of submissiveness while I tried to think of how I could get more information. Finding out what he was up to was my goal, but I hadn't expected to get a shot at it already.

"Why don't we have a sit together and have a little chat while I wait for Drew to arrive?" I asked, hoping it would buy me some time. I feared that he would think that a chat meant something more intimate, but I had to start there and hope that Drew turned up before anything too disgusting had to be endured.

Ludis motioned for me to go sit where Butch was leaning against a wall and where he had been when I first entered. It was off to one side and gave him a view of those who came into the lounge before they could see Ludis.

I knew it would make it harder for Drew to stop anything happening between us, but I also knew it was the only way I was going to get this mission done. Striding over with the same appearance of confidence that I had displayed so far, I took in the rest of the room.

There were another four vampires in the room and they were each toying with at least one enthralled each, one of them two. That meant I had nine witnesses to whatever occurred on top of Butch.

Not sure if I wanted Leo to interrupt or not, I sat down and let Ludis do the same beside me. He was close and reached out to put a hand on my thigh. He squeezed it and made me glad that I hadn't strapped a knife to it. I wasn't sure I'd have been able to explain that.

"So... what is going to change in two day's time?" I asked, tilting myself toward him. "What on Earth could possibly make you more powerful than you are now that you can't do today?"

Ludis chuckled. "You are very curious, aren't you?"

I shrugged and leaned in even closer. "Think of it as more of a desire to know what I'm agreeing to and what gain there is for me as well as what is asked of me. You can't blame a girl for wanting to be sure what she is signing up for."

"Perhaps not. But I still think that you have some special skills that make it very hard for me to trust you."

"And if I did have those special skills. They're just as much for hire as anyone else is." I looked pointedly at Butch. There was no doubt in my mind that he was important to Ludis. He was around all the time and appeared to know exactly what was going on. If Ludis could maybe confirm at least that much, it might help.

"Some vampires are only for hire once and then they know what loyalty is," Ludis replied as he also looked at Butch, almost confirming it. "They know how to earn trust, be of use and then they... gain a higher status."

I nodded as if I completely understood this and was willing to work with the information. I was certain that I would never truly work with Ludis, and I wasn't even slightly tempted, but he needed to think I was considering it. "You make a good argument for loyalty. I think loyalty is earned as well as trust."

"And does anyone have either your trust or loyalty yet?" he asked, coming right out and saying it.

"Drew has told me how he feels about you," I replied, knowing it was a controversial thing to say. Even Ludis was surprised. "Good things. Or I wouldn't be sitting here."

Ludis didn't seem to buy it and I saw him glance to Butch. "Of course, that could be that he doesn't trust me enough to tell me what he really thinks yet, but I don't usually have trouble getting people to trust me."

I knew I was waffling and this wasn't going very well. Ludis wasn't leaning in any closer or looking any more interested in me. This wasn't working.

After a few seconds I sighed and shook my head. "What am I saying? This isn't me. I'm not able to play games, or pretend I'm something I'm not. I like Drew, but I like you as well. I said I'd be Drew's before I knew that being another vampire's was even an option. It's not right that I do anything but continue to be his."

When I finished speaking I got up and sort of bowed toward Ludis, but he grabbed my hand.

"Sit back down, sweetheart. You're more charming than you think and there's no harm in us sitting together. You might have said that you belong to Drew, but there are ways you can help him, if that would make you feel better."

"There are?" I did as he asked and sat myself back down.

Ludis smiled and his eyes lit up as he gazed at me. He shifted himself a little closer to me and put his hand on my thigh again, this time shifting his hand around so his fingers were between my legs. "Enthralled aren't exclusive always and it's up to you to do what's best for him. Sometimes that means pleasing vampires in return for them helping your master. And I can definitely help your master."

"You can?" I asked, trying to look even more wide eyed and innocent.

"In two days I'll be in a place to help anyone who is going to be in this with me," Ludis added.

"What happens in two days then? Are you going to do something?" I furrowed my brow, looking as confused as I could and then looked between him and Butch.

"Butch is going to fetch me something. Something that I'm going to be able to use to do all sorts of wonderful things."

"Sounds like an important job," I replied and again looked up at the vampire standing by the wall. "What do you need me to do?"

Ludis grinned over at me and then leaned in to whisper in my ear. Before he could say anything, Butch coughed and looked pointedly over toward the door.

I knew before I looked that it would be Leo and they were aware this wasn't entirely okay and safe to do. I pulled back and then got up excitedly as if I was super pleased to see him. It wasn't hard to fake an emotion I very much felt.

"Drew," I called, getting his attention. He looked relieved when he saw me for just a moment.

Again, as I hurried over to him he put his arm out and then tucked me in against his side.

"Come sit with us," Ludis said before I could let Leo drag me away. He smiled and walked me back to almost right where I was and we sat down together.

"Looks like you were all having a good time here before I got here."

Ludis smiled as if this was obvious but it was all innocent. "We were having a great time. Your little enthralled here was telling me how highly you spoke of me."

"Oh, sweet thing, you're not meant to go doing something like that," Leo said, giving me a stern look.

I frowned and let my shoulders slump as if the excitement and happiness had been swept right out of me.

"I'm not?" I asked, trying to sound very worried. I didn't know if I managed to make it look real. "I didn't mean to do something wrong. I'm sorry."

Leo kissed me on the forehead and brought me in closer so my body was pressed up against his side. "It's okay this time, but good or bad, you're supposed to keep what I tell you to yourself."

I nodded, as if I understood entirely. Of course, I was sure he wasn't really cross and this was all part of trying to look like a normal enthralled while also getting information out of Ludis.

With Butch and Ludis right by us, I wasn't sure what I would be able to tell Leo, but it was obvious that Butch was a big part of the plan in two days and there might be some merit to just following the secondary vampire wherever he was going to stop him and then killing Ludis.

I had no idea if it would be that simple, but for now, we were stuck in the lounge with the very vampires we wanted to take out.

"I think it's time for us to have some fun, don't you?" Ludis said. "I'm bored, hungry and there are too many delicious ladies in here who aren't being enjoyed the way they ought to be."

This made Leo frown for half a second but he looked over at me right after and pulled me even closer before groping me. "I think I agree. I've had this little thing for two days now and I've barely had anywhere near enough time with her on the end of my cock in one way or another."

"Do promise you'll share her tonight sometime too. Butch has been eyeing her up and he's not the only one." Ludis reached out and put his hand into my hair before gripping it tight and pulling my head back. "Her mouth needs to be put to work... followed by the rest of her."

"Not until I'm done with her," Leo replied. "She's still on her honeymoon period."

"You know this group doesn't have the honeymoon period anymore," Ludis replied, looking darkly at Leo.

"That's not your call, and you know it." Leo bristled, standing up and pushing me down and to the side. I was surprised by the sudden aggression.

Ludis held up his hands. "All right, have it your way. She can be yours as much as you want first, but she's an enthralled and unless you're going to turn her, that makes her presence here fun for all of us."

"When she's ready. And not before."

This seemed to appease the vampire and he backed off to go over to some of the other vampires. They were already locked in all sorts of positions, some of the enthralled taking multiple vampires while others watched or rested. It was clear that they were all having fun and I had no desire to stop them, but I wasn't interested in that sort of thing with Ludis.

Butch followed his boss away and they conversed while Leo made a show of beginning to touch me and he pushed me back down onto the sofa so he could get on top of me.

With all my nerves, I wasn't as turned on as I'd have wanted to be to enjoy this, but Leo paused anyway as Butch left the lounge.

"He's the one who is going to make the trade or whatever Ludis is doing," I whispered in Leo's ear. "Ludis has told him everything. I'm sure of it."

"Then I need to go after him and get the information out of him," Leo replied.

I frowned, knowing that everyone else was in an orgy except for me and Ludis. If I was left here, I was only going to have to be a toy for Ludis. But Leo was right. We needed to know what Butch knew.

"Distract Ludis as much as you can. Tell him I had a phone call from the vampire who turned me and I told you to have some fun and chill out because I'll be a while." Leo whispered, but his words were faster, slightly louder, and spoken with more desperation. He pulled his phone out and put it to his ear before he hurried away.

I slowly lifted myself back up and got to my feet, watching him go again. As soon as he left, I felt vulnerable. This wasn't what I expected from the evening and I didn't know if I could do what was being asked of me.

Before I could move, Ludis came up and put his arms around me from behind. "Oh dear. Has he abandoned you here already little mouse? No doubt he's gone after Butch thinking that Butch will tell him what I'm up to. But he won't over power my best vampire. Now, why don't you tell me once and for all what a hunter is doing in a vampire lounge if you're not here to be fucked to death for daring to think you're better than us?"

I swallowed as Ludis kept his arms around me, his grip far too tight and far too complete for me to easily get out of.

I was screwed.
