Chapter 30
The wedding was a beautiful, small event held in the closed restaurant that Evan and Kayla owned. They kept it friends and family only, with the babies proudly attending in their own formalwear. It was everything.
Luke couldn't help the tears that came to his eyes as he watched Paisley walk toward him in her wedding gown. It was a simple but beautiful style with no frilly pieces, suiting her perfectly.
She had her arm through Cade's as they walked down the makeshift aisle toward him. Luke took her hand when they reached him, resisting the urge to pull her to him and delay the vows.
The wedding officiant went through the words and pronounced them man and wife before he finally had her in his arms. She was officially his wife, and he'd spend the rest of his making sure she was happy.
"I love you," she whispered against his lips.
"I love you," Luke replied before pulling away and turning to their friends.
"It's fitting that the last of us to get married does so here. Kind of a full circle moment," Jake joked.
"Thank you for closing for the day so we could do this," Luke told Kayla and Evan.
"We couldn't have been happier to do it when you asked." Kayla beamed. "This is perfect."
"I just thought since I didn't get to have my blind date that I'd make sure I still got to come here."
"It's a real shame we didn't get to pay you back for those." Evan pretended to be upset. "I had a few people in mind."
"Oh really? Who?" Kayla turned her attention to her husband.
"Oh, umm." Evan put his palms up. "Just some people I've met over the years."
Kayla couldn't pretend to be angry for long and laughed at his panic. "That's what I thought."
The group dissolved into laughter as Evan adjusted his collar, clearly put out.
"Welcome to the family officially." Cade shook Paisley's hand.
Catherine held Garrett and beamed at them. "It's official now. You'll never be rid of us," she teased.
Paisley was glowing as she squeezed his hand."I never want to."
"Quick, someone file that paper before she changes her mind." Luke laughed as Paisley's jaw fell open.
"It would serve you right if she did," Cade said. "But I think she's decided to keep you."
"I think so, too. Aren't I lucky?" Luke answered Cade but watched Paisley blush.
Someone had ordered food to be catered here and they all took seats and relaxed as they ate. Luke took it all in and considered how much his life had changed in the last few years.
There was nothing he would change. Even the bad stuff that he'd done or had happened to him because it led him to this. It was all to get to this moment, surrounded by his friends, accepted by his family, married to the love of his life.
"What are you thinking so hard about?" Paisley asked.
"You." He flashed her his best charming grin and she blushed like he'd hoped. He leaned over and whispered in her ear, "I can't wait for tonight."
Her face flamed. "You act like we don't already live and sleep together."
"This is different. Now you're my wife," he told her.
"No, you're my husband," she teased.
"I love you," he told her again.
"I love you. I can't wait to begin our forever."
"And we will, right after we get rid of all these people." He gestured to his friends.
"Stop. You love this."
"Yeah, I kinda do," he admitted.
"A toast to the happy couple," Jake shouted, raising his glass. "May they always be as happy as they are right now."
Everyone toasted their glasses and agreed.
Luke stood and raised his own, "I hope that we all remain as happy as we are right now. That we remain close, as friends and family, and never let anyone change that."
They all agreed, and Luke took his seat again.
"Who knew you were so sentimental," Paisley commented. "It's like I had no idea what I was getting myself in to."
"Yeah, you did. Besides, no returns." At Paisley's gentle tap on his arm, Luke laughed outright.
This was perfect.
