Chapter 10

Chapter Ten

“ H ow much longer?”

I try not to look at Julian when I speak, but his presence is demanding eye contact, and I don’t like it.

“Eighty percent completed. Eighty-seven.” I say as I begin to pack up.

“It shouldn’t be much longer. I guess I can leave.”

“Finally.” I say and Julian laughs. “I need to back this up and test the site, and I’ll be on my way home.

“No Saturday night plans? Julian asks. I ignore the question for obvious reasons, but he just won’t leave me alone.

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re adolescent?”

“Ouch. I’m only trying to get you to engage in conversation.”

“See that’s the adolescent thing I’m talking about. I don’t want to engage in any conversation with you, but you keep trying to make me.”

“You don’t think you’re being adolescent by trying to avoid me altogether?”

“I don’t care what you think?”

Julian adjusts his jaw as he glares at me. He picks up his bag that I didn’t notice he had put down and heads for the door. He tries to open it and it doesn’t open. I lean forward looking at him attempting to open the door, again.

“Enya, did the young lady say that the doors would lock after hours?”

“No, they’re not supposed to lock from the inside until 6 o’clock.”

“Well something is wrong.”

I walk over to the door and try opening it myself, because I don’t believe Julian.

“You didn’t believe me?”

“No. Shit!” I grab my cellphone to call Jordy, so that she or someone can come back to let us out. “Shit! I have no range”

“Neither do I,” he says walking back and forth to try to connect to a cell tower. The lights flicker again, but this time was different.

Shit! I yell as the power goes out. This is that last thing I wanted to happen, and I definitely didn’t want to be locked inside with a man I despise.

“Enya, we’re going to be here until the storm passes, maybe we’ll have services.”

“Send me a text? I’ll send you a text, what’s your number?” I ignore whatever Julian was saying. I disregard what I was saying, and sends a text to my mother. It comes back as failed. “I can’t stand technology.”

“It depends on what type of technology. I like vinyl records.”

I slowly turn my head, staring at Julian, “What are you talking about.”

“Vinyl records, they’re a form of technology.”

“I don’t care, Julian. I’m trying to get out of here.”

“You really are self-centered.”

“Let me guess, that came from Shontae?”

“No, that came from observing,” he says taking a seat next to me.

We sit in silence for what seems likes hours, and only twenty minutes has passed. My tablet is keeping my occupied but not for long .

“This may seem a bit adolescent, but let’s play a game.”

I look up from my slowly dying tablet. “What you don’t play enough video games at home.”

“Nope I don’t own video games.”

“Right, you own what is it again,” I ask snapping my fingers... “Records.”

“I own Vinyls.”

“Same, difference.”

“Would you like to know the game, ma’am? The power won’t be on for another hour or so, and we’re locked in until then, what’s it going to be?”

“Fine, what’s the game?”

“Never have I ever.” His smile half smile does that thing to me, again, and I can’t stand it.

“I’ll go first.” Julian says still smirking.

“No wait, what will we do if we, “ever”. I use air quotes. “We don’t have alcohol. So what’s the purpose?” I shrug. Julian pulls his man bag from the chair, revealing a bottle of bourbon.

“I was going to open it this weekend for a special occasion that I have planned but,” he pauses as he stares at the bottle. There’s something there, not sadness but not far from it.

“You okay Furey?”

“Yeah, yeah I’m good.”

“You still want to go first?”

“Uh yeah, I have to make this a good one.”

“Wow, straight to the point?”

“Yes ma’am,” he says with a fake smile. I know it’s cap, because whatever significance that bottle of bourbon has it’s affected Julian, so much so, there are beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

“What’s it going to be Furey?” I edge him on.

“Never have I ever,” he pauses and opens the bourbon bottle and hands it to me. I scoff.

“Been sexually attracted to a colleague.”

I slowly take the bottle and take a drink from it. The hot liquid fills my chest and awakens my libido. I shouldn’t play this game with Julian, but what do I have to lose? Julian takes the bottle and takes a drink from it. Our eyes connect, both not looking away.

“Your turn,” Julian prompts me to ask a question. I’m having second thoughts about this now that I’ve been put on the spot. “I don’t think this is how it’s played,” his voice is thick and convicting. We haven’t broken eye contact yet.

“Never have I ever,”

“Make it good McCabe, Julian interrupts.

I don’t want to get drunk off of bourbon, so he’s right I have to make it good.

“Never have I ever dated on the job.” Julian takes a drink from the bottle and passes it to me. I push it back towards him as I shake my head.

“Wow, really you’ve never dated anyone you worked with?”

“No, and I don’t plan on it,” that statement earned another swig from Julian. “It’s messy and complicated.”

“It doesn’t have to be,” he at me as if he’s searching for something in my eyes. Lightning flashes through the windows, and soon after thunder breaks our silence.

“Have you checked your phone for service?”

“No, I figured just to wait the storm out. Either the police will let us out or the staff will in the morning.”

“I have no desire to sleep here tonight.”

“What are your desires?”

“Julian, I’m not playing this game with you.”

“I’m making conversation, Enya.”

“I don’t want to talk, I just want to get out of here, and go home.” Julian hasn’t taken his eyes off of me.

“You really don’t like me.”

“Finally!” I say holding his attention.

“You don’t like me because of a title. A title you think I took from you.” He shakes his head and takes a swig of the bottle. I don’t say anything when he turns the bottle up against his lips, again. This time he caps the bottle and sits it on the ground. “A title,” he says again looking at me. “You know my father taught me to respect women, but to make sure that they don’t disrespect me. I thought I understood it back then, but I really understand it now.” He says this like I’ve been the woman disrespecting him. I’ve been the woman trying to avoid him, because as much as I want to dislike this man, he’s tearing down my barrier that I built only for him. I just want him to shut up. The proximity has already affected me pairing it with his voice sends vibrations straight to my spot.

“Julian?”

“Enya.

There are no words to describe the ache that I felt when my name rolled from this man’s lips. The attraction is there, but I don’t want it to be.

“Please be quiet.” I gain composure to ask him. He nods, as he reaches out and rubs his thumb across my bottom lip. Finding restraint not to lick my bottom lip is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Julian doesn’t speak for the duration of our lock-in. He does continue to eye-fuck me, which is probably worse. I finally stand to check the door after two hours of being locked in. Julian has now changed positions, and is sitting hunched over holding his face.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m aloud to speak now?”

“I asked you to be quiet for your sake.”

“Ah okay, Julian close your mouth it’s for you. How does that even make sense?”

“Never mind I asked.”

“I’m good, Enya. Thank you for your concern,” he says like he’s annoyed, now. I laugh because this was me about an hour ago.

“You don’t get to be annoyed Julian.” Still hunched over Julian lifts his head from his hands to glare and me. “You inserted yourself in this situation, and now your annoyed. I asked and told you to leave. So, you don’t get to be annoyed, Furey, not even a little.” There is a shift of energy in the room. Julian stands from the chair and in one step Julian, and I stand face to face. There’s no place for me to go as Julian has me cornered with both hands on either side of me. Julian is so close I can smell the bourbon on his lips, and the scent of his woodsy cologne. It’s interfering my judgment because in this moment I want what this is. I don’t like this man, but I want whatever this is right now. Julian eyes drops to my lips, and slowly he looks back up at me. I can feel Julian’s breath fan across my face, it’s heavy and controlled. He’s trying to control himself. Julian presses his body against mine, feeling how affected he is I duck from under one of his arms freeing myself from him. Julian grabs my arm and pulls me against his body, backing me into the wall again. “Enya,” he says against my lips.

“How did we get here Julian?” I whisper before he presses his lips against mine. The kiss is soft, but he pulls away; looking into my eyes he smiles and presses his lips against mine, again. This kiss is intense as Julian strokes his tongue in and out of my mouth. I can’t catch my breath when Julian bends to pick me up, cupping my ass as he pins me between the wall and his hard body. Wrapping my legs around Julian’s waist he braces himself on the wall as he grinds against me. Julian hands explore my body while kissing my neck. He lifts my blouse exposing my stomach.

“Take if off. He says holding me by the waist. I waste no time pulling my blouse over my head. Julian smiles before dipping his head to lay a kiss above my demi cup bra. My breast spills over the top when Julian pulls my bra down. He takes my nipple into his mouth causing my body to heat up. Julian rolls my other nipple between his fingers turning me into a hot mess. My body wants more but my mind is screaming this can’t happen. Julian’s hand has reached my neck, with his fingers partially spread across my throat and one finger rubbing my bottom lip he adds pressure as he bites down on my nipple.

“Julian, please.”

“Please what, Enya? Tell me,” he says.

I can’t tell him because I have mixed feelings, but I also want Julian to take the lead. I want what he wants in this moment. It’s like he knows my thoughts. Julian unfastens my jeans and pulls them off of me in seconds. I’m against a wall with only underwear between Julian and I. That doesn’t last long because Julian has snatched my panties off of me. I’m sure they’re torn. “I’ll replace them,” he says in a husky tone. Julian carries me from the wall position we were in to the chair. “Sit back,” Julian says as he tilts the chair.

“Julian?”

“Sit back, I got you.”

I do as he says and sit back. Julian kneels as he has the chair tilted. “Spread your legs and hold on.”

“Hold on to what Julian?”

“My head.”
