“ H i, sweetheart. How was your first week with that lucky asshole?” my father asks.
“It’s fine,” I lie and I’m glad we’re on the phone because my face would give me away. It’s one of the most arduous weeks of my life. I’m underqualified, overwhelmed, and insanely enamored with my boss.
“Come on, there’s got to be more than that. Tell me about his operation.”
“I can’t. They made me sign an NDA the second I stepped into the human resources office.”
“So they have secrets to hide…”
“Or maybe they knew that you would be on my ass asking me for any juicy corporate info you could use to undercut his deals.”
“You haven’t told them I’m your father, have you?”
“Of course not. Although I’m surprised they didn’t look too deep into my records when they hired me. ”
“That was my doing. Don’t worry about it and just go with the flow and don’t let it slip.”
“Well then, leave me alone and we’ll be fine. It’s not like you call me more than every six weeks when mom wants to have a family dinner.”
