Chapter6

West

Shane is curled up against my side in bed, a movie playing on the television. My dorm is quiet compared to my house. It’s nice to have Shane to myself.

I run my fingers along his spine, grinning when he shivers at my touch. Shane looks up at me and smiles, his gaze warm as his arm wraps around my torso.

There’s a small Christmas tree on my desk in the corner. Shane took it upon himself when we got home to take my empty pill bottles and stick wires through the caps before hanging them on the little tree. A jockstrap is on the top of the tree in place of a star.

While he was doing that, I was in the shower. I had no clue he was doing any of it, but when I came out of the shower, I was thrilled to see the little Christmas tree that West pilfered from his roommate, Ethan, who left it over the holiday break. Even though I know I’m going to have to wash my jockstrap again before I wear it. I don’t want the glitter from the tree all over my dick.

Shane would never let me hear the end of it. Not that I would ever want him to.

“This is the best Christmas ever,” Shane says softly. “Thank you for everything. I don’t know how I would have gotten through it without you.”

I brush my lips gently on his forehead. “I’m glad you had a good time. I love you, Shane.”

“I love you too,” he says, his eyes closing. “If you told me in September that this is the way the year would end, I never would have believed you.”

“In September I still thought I was straight,” I say, my fingers still gliding up and down his spine. “Then you shoved your way into my life.”

“Even when you kept trying to shove me back out of it.”

I chuckle and lean down to kiss his seductive lips. “I’m not going to do that again. My life has gotten so much better since you tore down my walls. Everything is different now and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

“Not even the transplant?” Shane asks, opening his eyes and looking up at me.

“Well,” I say, grinning and shrugging. “I’m not sure I would change that either. You gave me the best gift that anyone has ever given me.”

I look down at him, love flowing through me. It’s crazy to think that in a short amount of time, one person is capable of changing everything you thought you knew. I used to have my life planned out and thought I knew what would happen. There was a routine and a single-minded goal.

Now, there’s a future.

I have someone to settle down with. I have a man that I love with my entire being and though it feels overwhelming at times, I’m excited for what happens next. There are a thousand different things I know we’re going to do together, and I can’t wait.

We have our entire lives in front of us.

Though I told Shane that the liver is the best gift I’ve ever gotten, it’s not.

The best gift I’ve ever been given is his love.
