Chapter 18

Indy

“I thought you might have gotten lost,” I murmur as Breaker comes into the room.

He smiles at me, coming directly to the bed, before bending down, lifting my body up to his and kissing me with so much hunger it completely takes my breath. We’ve kissed a lot over the last week, each one delicious in its own way. There have been kisses full of hunger, need, and desire. Some have been sweet and gentle, and some portraying different emotions, like happiness or thankfulness. Yet there’s never been a kiss like this between us. This one is completely different from any other he’s given me. It’s electrically charged, instantly hot. There’s a hunger inside of him that’s he’s never let me feel before today.

I drink it in greedily, famished for anything he gives me. Our tongues war with one another and my fingers dive into his hair, tugging on it as I give in to the desire between us. I feel Breaker’s hands traveling over my body, the one holding me in place at the back of my neck, as he commands my body to take what he gives me. His other hand slides under my T-shirt, his fingers branding my skin as they slide over my back.

I can feel the insides of my thighs getting wetter and wetter with my desire. I’m feeling things I’ve never felt before in my life. Until now, I’ve always been in control. Tonight, there is no restraint, only Breaker’s domination over my body—one which I eagerly accept. He kisses me until my lungs are burning and we break apart. Both of us are panting. The sound is ragged and demanding as it echoes in the room.

“I need you, Indy.”

His words are a statement, but I can hear the question in them. Even now, he’s trying to hold back. Breaker’s doing that for me. Holding back is the last thing he wants, but the man is looking out for me— putting me first . When I came to Tinny’s room and saw her interacting with Breaker and the gentle way he held her close, my heart stopped beating for a minute and then I heard her laughter and looked at the gentle way he was looking at her and everything in me melted. This was what I’ve always wanted for Tinny. This was what her sperm donor was supposed to give her and didn’t. Most of all, Breaker is exactly what both Tinny and I need in our lives. He was giving her attention and love, not because I’m watching. He didn’t even know I was there. No, Breaker was just enjoying being with my daughter. The man may not remember his past, but he’s told me repeatedly that Tinny and I are his future and finally, I believe him.

“Then, take me,” I whisper.

I see the surprise on his face. “You’re sure?”

I nod. “I’ve never been more positive about anything in my life, Breaker. I want you.”

“You know that once I have you, Indy, I’m not letting you go. There will be no going back. I’m not the kind of man who will let you back away from what we have started.”

“Do you realize that you’re tying yourself to a woman with a lot of baggage and a ready-made family?” I ask him, but for once I don’t have any fear about the answer I’m going to receive. Breaker already knows, and he’s still fighting for this … for us.

“I’m counting on it. You and Tinny are all I want, honey. That’s not going to change.”

“Then what are you waiting for?” I tease.

He lets out a playful growl and my laugh quickly turns into a gasp when he yanks my shirt over my head with a speed that almost leaves me dizzy. On instinct, I bring my arms up to hide my breasts. Breaker immediately shakes his head negatively. “Never hide yourself from me, Doc. You’re a gift and from this moment on, you’re mine. Outside these walls you can be the strong, independent woman who runs her business, takes care of her family and kicks ass daily. In here, you’re mine completely. Mine to worship, to take care of, to please, to love.” If I wasn’t already completely head over heels for this man, I would be now. His words caress me and breakdown any defenses that were stubbornly trying to hang on. I let my arms drop. With my history, it’s hard for me to let go of lessons learned from the past. Yet, when I see the desire and tenderness in Breaker’s gaze, I know I’m safe. “Take it all off, Indy. Let your man see you,” he orders, his voice so gruff that it vibrates through me, sending ricocheting zings of pleasure through my body that all concentrate between my legs. I thought I was wet before, but now it’s almost embarrassing.

I take off my pajama bottoms first, while wishing I had thought ahead and worn something sexy for him. I push the thought away. I can do that in the future. Tonight, it’s just about him and me. I swallow once I kick my pajamas away. I take a deep breath before I move my panties down my legs, stepping out of them, while hoping I don’t pass out from the mixture of desire and fear that is swirling inside of me.

I haven’t been with anyone since my ex. I thought his treatment of me and Tinny cured me from ever wanting a man in my life. But then, Breaker is no ordinary man. He’s unlike any man I’ve ever met in my life—outside of men like Carson and Cooper who are family, if anything. Breaker is all man. He provided fuel for my midnight fantasies from day one. I just couldn’t allow myself to give over to the temptation.

And yet, here I am.

“Aren’t you going to get undressed?” I finally find the nerve to ask when he just keeps staring at me.

“I’m just taking a minute to enjoy looking at what is mine,” he practically purrs. “Now, sit down on the bed, keep your legs on the floor, but lay back.” My heart goes crazy as I immediately do as he asks. “I like the way you do as I ask so easily, Doc. I’m going to need that from you in our bedroom. Can you give that to me?”

I swallow nervously. It feels like I’m getting ready to jump off the edge of a cliff. I breathe deep, looking into Breaker’s eyes, and I know it’s going to be okay. “Yes,” I answer, feeling free for the first time in my life. I’m tired of being the only one in charge, of doing everything so that my daughter has the life she deserves. In this bedroom, I can give Breaker complete control because I know he’ll never hurt me.

I trust him.
