Chapter 5
CHAPTER FIVE
The next day, I found myself standing outside the emergency hospital, waiting for Rosario. The morning sun cast a warm glow over Evergrove, and I couldn't help but feel a burst of excitement for this moment. When Rosario's truck pulled up, I waved, my heart fluttering as if it had wings.
“Ready to get Comet?” he asked, stepping out of the truck with a smile.
“Absolutely. Let's go bring him home!”
We walked into the hospital together, and Maria greeted us with a cheerful smile. “Good morning, you two. Comet's been doing great. He's ready to go home.”
Rosario's chiseled and cinnamon-brown face lit up. “That's fantastic news. Thank you, Maria.”
As we made our way to the treatment area, I couldn't help but tease Rosario a little. “So, Mr. Knight, how does it feel to be a dog dad?”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “It's a lot of responsibility, but I think I'm up for the challenge. Besides, I have an awesome vet helping me out.”
Be still my heart before I have a heart attack . The way my body responded to him was exhilarating and nerve-racking all at the same time. “Well, I'm always here if you need anything .”
He raised an eyebrow but said nothing more. We made it to Comet's run, the sight of him wagging his tail and looking much healthier brought a smile to my face. Rosario knelt, gently petting Comet. “Hey, buddy. Ready to go home?”
Comet responded with a happy bark. Once at the truck, we carefully lifted him into the backseat. As I followed him back to the motel, he carried him in, setting him down gently on his makeshift bed.
“You know, Sanova,” Rosario began, glancing at me with a playful smile, “I was thinking... Maybe we should make this a regular thing. You know, rescuing dogs together.”
I laughed, shaking my head. “Oh, so now you're a smooth talker and a comedian?”
He grinned. “Only when it comes to you. Seriously, though. Thanks for everything.”
“You're welcome, Rosario. I'm just glad I could help.”
He pulled me into a hug, holding on to me much longer this time. I exhaled a breath, debating whether I should make the first move and kiss him.
He hummed against my hair. “You smell so good, it feels nice holding you like this, but I know you have to get to work.”
With his words swirling around in my head, I couldn't stop myself from saying. “You too. I don't want to let go. But, yes, duty calls.”
He squeezed me tighter before letting go to caress my cheek. “Will the amazing Dr. Park honor me with another date?”
“If it's the right time and place. Maybe.” I teased. Of course, later on, I said yes. How could I resist a man as alluring as Rosario Knight?
