CHAPTER FOUR

MELODY

“How about a little truth or dare?” she suggested. “Every truth you must take a drink, and every dare you pass on, you have to take a drink.”

“As long as there won’t be video evidence to use against us later,” I told her.

“Fuck,” Alyssa said. “Let’s go get another round of drinks. What does everyone want?”

The ladies rattled off their drinks, and Alyssa and I headed to the bar. “I’ll buy two, and you get two.”

“Absolutely not. The birthday girl and the bride-to-be will not be paying for their drinks tonight.”

“Ugh. Fine. I’ll have a Blackberry Bourbon Smash. You don’t have to twist my arm.”

Alyssa ordered the drinks, and I helped carry them to the table.

“Okay, let’s go.” Alyssa sat next to me as we settled in.

“I’ll go first,” Elena said. “Alyssa. Truth or dare.”

“Dare.” She didn’t even hesitate to answer.

We all hooted as she picked dare on the first one.

“Go outside and line-dance like for twenty seconds.”

We all laughed at the dare.

“Ugh. I’m already regretting this,” Alyssa groaned.

I was just glad it wasn’t me.

We all watched as Alyssa made her way outside, positioned herself in front of the window where we were sitting, and started line dancing, and nobody paid her any mind. People were either already drunk or heading to their destination. When the time was up, Elena pointed to her watch. We were all laughing at her ridiculousness. But at least we were making it fun and making memories.

Alyssa came and sat back down. “Okay, Alyssa, you do the next one.”

She turned her body to me. Truth or dare, Melody?”

“Truth.”

“Boring. Booo,” Iris chanted.

“Where is the wildest place you have had sex?”

“Under a bridge. Next.” I quickly take a drink.

“With Trevor?” Aly asked.

“Yeah. Who else?”

“How was it?” Iris asked.

“I was bent over, so he was hitting it from behind.”

“You go, girl,” Elena cheered.

Being that it was my turn, I asked Iris, “Truth or dare?”

“Dare.”

“Oh, okay,” Alyssa said.

It took me a minute to think of something. “I dare you to go in the bathroom and take a selfie with a toilet.”

“Eww. I’m not one to turn down a dare.” She got off her stool and headed toward the bathroom. There was a small line, so we had to wait until she came back and supplied us with the evidence via her phone.

“Only you would make that look good,” I told her.

“Thanks.” She was proud of her accomplishment.

“Okay, Elena, you ready?”

“Go for it,” she told Iris.

“Truth or dare?”

“Dare.”

Oh my god, I really felt like the oddball, the only one to pick truth.

“I dare you to moonwalk the length and back across the bar. Either on the bar or across the floor. You can choose.”

“Fine.”

We watched as she approached the bar and talked to the bartender. He offered her his hand and assisted her up on the bar. She was the most daring out of all of us. And she always went to extremes.

“This is gonna be good,” Alyssa smiled wide.

Elena moonwalked the entire length of the bar, and everyone in the place was hooting and hollering at her. When she got to the end, she slipped right off and fell on her ass.

Laughing, we rushed over to her. “Are you okay?”

“I think I hurt my ass,” she laughed while rubbing her ass cheek.

“Okay, let’s enjoy our drinks before we do another round,” Alyssa suggested.

The bar was starting to get crowded, and the countdown pre-show was playing on the TV even though music was playing over the loudspeaker.

“That bartender is kind of cute,” Iris said, bumping Elena’s shoulder.

“And I’m not single, remember?”

“Right. Maybe I’ll go over and chat him up,” Iris responded.

She was no stranger to one-night stands. In fact, she had a phobia when it came to relationships. She was not the commitment type of girl.

Iris slid off her stool and went over to flirt with the bartender. The rest of us chit-chatted and asked about Elena’s wedding plans. We had a lot of questions. But she provided little answers since she was newly engaged and she and her fiancé hadn’t discussed when to have the wedding. She would be the first out of the four of us to get married. Marriage couldn’t be farther from my mind. But I was looking forward to being at her wedding.

“Who do you have your eyes on, Alyssa?” I asked.

“The doctor at our doctor’s office.” She was quick with that answer. She was a receptionist at that office and loved her job.

“Do tell,” Elena said as she leaned in for the scoop.

“He’s young, has nice hair, dirty blonde, has kind, green, they are dreamy,” she sighed. “And his mom brings us treats all the time. Oh, and he’s single.”

“You need to ask him out before someone else does,” Elena told her, and I nodded in agreement.

“Maybe,” she sighed again and drank the last bit of her drink.

“Are we ready to hit our next spot?” Alyssa asked. “Let’s see if we can pry Iris from the bartender.”

We laughed and started to head out. Elena came over from talking to Iris. “She said she would meet us at our next spot.”

“I don’t like that idea. I guess we will be close enough since we are only going across the street. We can come over and check on her if she waits too long.”

“Yeah, that’s a good idea,” Alyssa confirmed.

Linking our arms together, Elena said, “Melody, I dare you to go hit the kill switch on that guy’s motorbike.” Granted it was no Harley Davidson. He was sitting at a red light and wore a helmet that shielded his face.

I thought, ‘Now that I could do.’

I made my way over, killed the switch, and quickly met up with the ladies without looking back as he sat at the red light.

“I can’t believe you did that,” Alyssa said.

I laughed. “Well, I know my way around a bike, so I knew where the kill switch was.” I was raised around bikes all my life, as my dad, who was a frequent rider, and my uncle always had one as well. Since my parents never had a son, I was the next best thing when it came to helping my dad tinker with his Harley Davidson bike. I learned my way around bikes and cars because my dad instilled in me that I needed to be independent and not rely on a man.

Sadly, my dad passed away two years ago, but I cherished the memories we were able to share.
