Chapter 5
CHAPTER FIVE
Jayne climbed out of her car and reached for the bag on the passenger’s seat with a grin. She hoped King would like what she’d spent the last day and a half creating just for him. Her thoughts were consumed with him. She had to admit that texting with him nearly constantly since Saturday evening had not helped keep her mind off him. Nor had designing and making the latest in her zoo of soft toys specifically for him did not help.
She hoped he liked it.
She looked around, but she was alone in the parking lot. There were motorcycle engine noises and men’s voices calling to one another coming from behind the building.
Pocketing her keys, she carried her purse and the gift bag and headed toward the showroom. She paused to look at the motorcycles lined up in front of the building. The black and chrome machines made her pussy and nipples clench in anticipation of the ride to come.
Entering the building, she looked around, curious about this new subsect of society she was entering. While she had read MC romances, she knew they were fiction, and not every motorcycle club dealt in drugs, guns, and women.
Wandering the room, Jayne was surprised there were no salesmen in sight waiting to pounce on a visitor, but the showroom was empty. She circled the room and stopped near the center of the room at a new display. She smiled at the table with her creations sitting on it with fliers and a bit poster standing up at the back advertising the toy run King had told her about.
“Sorry, those aren’t for sale,” King’s deep voice said as he stepped up beside her. The scent of dark spices and healthy male filled her lungs when she took a deep breath and something knotted up in her middle seemed to loosen.
“Interesting layout,” she said, her fingers twitching to rearrange things.
“It’s okay. None of us are good at putting displays together. But bikers aren’t all that picky about things like that.”
Jayne looked up at him and swallowed hard before asking, “Would it be okay if I rearranged things a little?”
King looked surprised at her offer before smiling down at her. “Help yourself.”
“Oh, I have this for you, but it’s for you, not the toy drive,” Jayne held out the bag.
King took it and she tense as he opened the bag and pulled out the contents.
“A golden lion?”
She shrugged. “I thought it could be your club mascot,” she whispered as she turned and began rearranging the animals, only half of which were her creations.
She jumped when a large, warm hand dropped onto her shoulder. King turned her then stepped in close.
“He’s beautiful. He’ll make a great mascot. Thank you.”
She was not prepared when he leaned in and kissed her. Not prepared, but more than welcoming and kissed him back.
As the kiss continued and deepened, his arms came around her, holding her in a secure embrace that brought tears to her eyes. It had been a long time since anyone had hugged her.
She wrapped her arms around his middle and clung. When he finally broke the kiss, Jayne pressed her cheek to his chest and listened to his heart thump in a steady but maybe slightly faster than normal rhythm. Even though tears filled her eyes, she smiled.
Maybe being with this hot, sexy, younger man wouldn’t be such a mistake.
King took a deep breath and sternly reminded himself that he could not just sweep her off her feet and carry her to the room he kept in the clubhouse out back for a day of sex, sex, and more sex. As he released it in a whoosh, he loosened his hold. She swayed, and only after he was certain she would not fall on her ass, he pulled his arms away and stepped back.
She looked up at him, her eyes glossy with unshed tears though she did not look sad, scared, or angry.
“Are you okay?”
Jayne wiped her palms over her eyes before smiling up at him and nodding. “I’m great. I may come over every morning for a hug like that. Can we go for that ride now?”
“That sounds like a great idea.”
King held out his hand, palm up, and was only mildly surprised when Jayne laid hers on top. Lacing their fingers together, he turned and led her out the side door of the building to where he and the rest of the club parked their motorcycles.
“I thought we could ride to the beach and go for a walk, then have lunch before coming home again,” he said, watching her carefully.
Her smile grew and seem to brighten her entire being. “That sounds like a perfect first date.”
