51. Chapter 51 - Lochinvar

Magnus was standing above me as I slowly gained consciousness.

He chuckled, "I will kindly ask ye tae unhand m'mother."

I mumbled and groaned and felt around, realizin' my face was on her chest. "Och nae," I pulled m'self up tae a sitting position.

She sat up, patting her hair. "Magnus, daena mock us. We hae been fleein' from the police, twas a frightening prospect. We barely escaped"

He smiled. "I think tis always frightening, rarely are we at peace when we jump — Did ye find out anything?"

"Nae, naething of use, the business office of Asgall Holdings is closed up and?—"

I said, "There was a pool of dried blood upon the floor."

Lady Mairead said, "A murder was committed, it has naething tae do with us in any way."

"How do ye ken?"

"That office in Manhattan would be the worst place tae hold someone, ye saw how quickly the police responded — Asgall took her somewhere else, I am certain."

Magnus nodded, "Then we will hae tae begin searching in 1296."

I exhaled and shook my head. "Aye, tis what we ought tae hae done in the first place, I fear we are verra far behind."

He said, "I ken ye are concerned, Lochinvar, but we are closer tae findin' her?—"

"I think I heard her voice, she was beggin' God for help. This is a thing that can happen?"

Magnus nodded. "Aye, ye can sometimes hear, ye can sometimes feel their presence. Kaitlyn calls it bein' entangled."

I said, "It bothers me greatly, she daena ken I am lookin' for her."

"In yer prayers today, ye could tell her — set her mind at ease, perhaps she will hear."

I nodded.

He asked, "Did she tell ye anythin' that might be helpful tae figuring out where she is?"

"Nae, I daena remember it clearly, naething but her voice, calling tae me."

Magnus helped me tae stand and I glanced down at the bottle. He asked, "Did ye bring me a beer?"

"Tis mine, I found it."

Lady Mairead raised her brow. "I found it, but ye might hae it as I daena like beer much."

Magnus said, "Tis likely bad, it looks verra auld."

"Ye forget we were in a place that was verra auld."

"Not as auld as this place."

"Och, right, I forget sometimes. The land here seems younger compared tae the tall buildings of the city and then which is young or auld? Tis all a confusing mess — when will we go?"

Magnus said, "I thought ye might want tae be fed first, unless ye went tae a fine restaurant in New York?"

Lady Mairead said, "I was given not one minute tae see my friends or do any visiting in Manhattan. Aye, we are hungry."

I said, "Famished." I held the bottle up. "It has a Tree of Life on the label, and that seems auspicious."
