Chapter 3 Phoenix

T he private jet hummed beneath us as we soared over Miami, leaving the glittering skyline behind. I leaned back in the plush leather seat, closing my eyes and letting the anticipation wash over me. Tonight, I would finally hear Damon Cross perform his new songs live.

"This is beneath us," Storm groused from across the aisle, her manicured nails tapping against the tray table. "Sending Rowe we need to sign them immediately."

Cyrus's mouth tightened, but he inclined his head slightly. "Very well. I'll take your recommendations into consideration and have legal draw up the standard contract paperwork."

I opened my mouth to protest the vague dismissal, but Talia's hand on my arm stopped me. A silent look passed between us - this was the best we could hope for tonight. Pushing any harder would only invite Cyrus's stubborn refusal.

With a terse nod, I spun on my heel and strode from the office, Talia falling into step beside me.

"You know how he is," she murmured once we were out of earshot. "Give him a few days to mull it over, and he'll come around."

"He'd better," I growled, slamming my palm against the elevator call button a little harder than necessary. "Because I'm not letting Damon Cross slip through my fingers. Even if I have to sign that smug, sexy bastard myself."

Talia's peal of laughter echoed through the marble lobby, drawing more than a few curious looks. But I couldn't find it in me to care. Not when the memory of Damon's heated gaze and that sinful murmur against my ear had me trembling with anticipation.

Whatever game he thought we were playing, the truth was infinitely simpler. He was already mine. He just didn't know it yet.
