" T here!" Oz yells, pointing at a little blue hatchback I recognize well. It's parked in the dirt on the side of the road, only two blocks from Emily's building.

I flip on my blinker and pull over, straining my eyes to see inside Meggie's car. The driver's side door is open, but I don't see any sign of her. Throwing my car in park, Oz, Dante, and I all jump out.

"Meggie?" Dante calls.

No answer.

I scan the patch of trees behind her car, but don't see anything. Snapping my fingers at Oz, I direct him to check the trees.

Why would she stop here? What was she doing? Why the fuck did she even leave us to begin with? I check her car for signs of a flat tire but everything looks fine beside the deep twist in my gut that nothing is fine.

"She's not here." Dante sticks his head inside the car. "But her purse and phone are."

My skin goes clammy and my heart races as I cross around to the driver's side. There are tire marks in the dirt. A flip-flop hangs half in the car and half out. The keys are still in the ignition.

An excruciating, animalistic growl tears out of my throat.

Dante catches my eye and whispers what I'm too worked up to admit. "Someone took her."

"I found something!" Oz yells from the bushes.

We dash to his side as he pulls something out of the roughage. A red baseball cap.

"It must have blown over here in the wind." He flips it over, and we all stare at the familiar logo.

USA Olympic Swim Team.

I'm not the only one growling now. Dante is dialing Emily. I'm stalking back and forth along the tree line. Oz is fisting the hat like he's about to rip it in two.

"Hey." Emily's voice comes over the speakerphone.

"Who did you say is missing from the swim meeting?" Dante says before Emily can say anything else.

"Daniel Teague."

"Does he know Meggie?" Oz asks.

My own voice is locked in my throat behind rage and anxiety.

"Yeah, they dated in college. He's a jackass, though. I'm glad Meggie ditched him. Why?"

I pull my phone out and text the rest of my pack that we have a lead, while Dante explains what we found.

"I don't think he would—"

"She's off her blockers, Em," Dante says, broken with worry.

"Oh." She sounds surprised. There's a long beat of silence as Emily processes what Dante's comment means. I'm not sure if Meggie didn't tell her friend we found out or if she just didn't tell Emily that she went off her blockers, but Emily pieces the seriousness of the situation together quickly.

"I'm texting you his address right now."

We're already getting in the car, peeling away from the deserted hatchback like it's diseased. If something happens to Meggie…

"Is there anywhere else he might go?" Oz asks.

I pull out onto the main road, not waiting for directions. I need to move. Need to get to her.

"If…" Emily's voice wobbles. "If I know Daniel, he'll take her to his place. He'll want to…" Her words cut out on a sob. "Oh, D, this is bad." Tears choke her voice. "You have to get to her. You have to stop—"

"We will," I bark, not even trying to keep my alpha side at bay. "We'll find her."

Whatever it takes, whatever it costs, we'll find her.
