Chapter One
Logan
Looking out the window of my office I can't help but smile. The hard hours, sleepless nights, and backbreaking work are finally paying off. Gibson Winery is getting the recognition it deserves.
After a few write-ups in niche magazines and online blogs, an article in a popular travel magazine got us on the radar of a famous pop star who now wants to have her wedding here. Our bed-and-breakfast is small and can't accommodate many people which is exactly what she and the groom are looking for.
The photos of this wedding will be everywhere. Not only is the bride famous, but her sisters are also as well. They are the pop trio, The Pandemonium Pixies. I don't know much about them, but my two younger sisters were ecstatic when I told them who had booked our venue for the wedding. It also meant that they helped get everything perfect when I promised to introduce them to the bride and her sisters.
Everything is ready. The wedding party is arriving this afternoon and the rehearsal for the wedding is tomorrow. The guests, of which there are only twenty, will arrive the next day by special transport and leave after the reception. Only the wedding party is staying here.
I wish I felt confident that everything would go according to plan, but Gibson luck is never good. It's how I inherited a run- down winery at twenty-three and have custody of my two pre-teen sisters. My dad was a gambler whose luck ran out, first when my mom left him after the twins were born and then when he made a bet with the wrong person.
Ruby, June, and I are going to be the Gibsons to break the bad luck cycle. It's been our promise to each other since we found out about Dad, and I promised that I wouldn't let them be separated or taken from me. It hasn't been easy, but we've made it. We have pop royalty staying with us today.
"Logan!" Ruby screams as she runs into the room. Her blond hair is curled around her face, and she has more make-up on than I've ever seen a woman wear.
"Yes?"
"They're here! They're here!"
"And I'm sure they can hear you. Can you take it down just a few decibels please?" I laugh as I ask.
We start to walk out of my office together and I look at my little sister. Should I say something about the make-up? I know she needs to tone it down, about one thousand percent, but I don't want to be the one to make her second guess her beauty or doubt herself. The world will do that to her. I decide not to say anything. If she feels good that's all that matters and from the smile on her face, she feels pretty and excited.
June joins us in the hall, and she has almost as much makeup on her face. Maybe I'll hire someone to come help them learn how to apply it correctly as a gift. Surely there must be a way to make that seem like a good thing.
The three of us walk out the front door to meet the group of eight getting out of the three town cars that have pulled up in front of the winery.
Out of the first car comes the bride and groom. Their clothes are rumpled, and they both have that glow of two people in love. The man walks forward with his hand outstretched, "Hi, I'm Alex Young and this is my fiancé, Rosie Stone."
"Nice to meet you, Alex. And you, Rosie." I shake both of their hands. "I'm Logan and these are my sisters, Ruby and June. Welcome to Gibson Winery."
We are joined by the other members of their party. Alex's assistant and friend, Sam, the wedding planner, Liz, and the remaining two Stone sisters, Phoebe and Maggie.
We all exchange greetings, and my staff begins showing the guests to their rooms, along with taking their luggage.
My sisters have been standing in shock. The pink-haired Stone sister, Phoebe, says hi to them and I can tell that this isn't the kind of woman who would brush off two girls who idolize her. She puts her arms through theirs and begins asking them questions about themselves.
Phoebe turns to me. "Can the girls show me to my room?"
"Of course, they know which one is yours. The luggage will be brought up in a minute."
As I watch them walk away, I can't take my eyes off the sway of Phoebe Stone's hips in her vintage gingham dress. She's gorgeous. I was instantly drawn to her curvy figure, but when she focused on my sisters and treated them so kindly it was my heart that started taking notice of the alluring pop star and not just my libido.
