Chapter 8

He’s fucking crazy.

Lucas stands with a towel wrapped around his waist, grinning like a fool.

“You?” How could he think this was a good plan?

It was fucking horrible!

“Didn’t I look the part last night?” He tilts his head to match the angle of my head where I stopped brushing the knots of my hair.

“I don’t know. I was too busy trying to smack the shit out of the cagna who was actively trying to gauge out your eyes.” He straightens and I notice the bulge under his towel growing.

“My eyes are up here, Baby. If you keep looking t my cock like your starving, we ain’t never going to get through my story, and you need to understand the plan, or you’re never going to be ready for our wedding on time.” That grabs my attention.

“Wedding? I said I’d marry you. I never agreed to a wedding.” He makes a tsk-ing sound with his tongue and drops his towel.

His ass flexes as he sits down to pull on a pair of boxers. His abs flex as he works the fabric up his leg and then adjusts his hard-on when my eyes yet again wander below his waist.

“What kind of a son would I be if my mama wasn’t present to see me marry the mother of my child?” I try not to gasp.

“You called your mother?” He nods as he secures his right leg and stands, walking over to me.

“Of course I did. Right after you fell asleep in my arms last night. Now, let’s get my girls feed.” He puts both his hands on the sides of my belly and leans in to kiss my mouth, which is hanging open in shock.

“But I have nothing to wear!” I finally say when the initial shock of it all wears off.

“You could wear that towel for all I care. I’m marrying you, not a dress. So, as long as when we leave, you have my last name, I’ll be the happiest man on Earth.” Fuckity fuck FUCK!

“About that,” He shakes his head.

“Yes, I know you must use Dragna in public. On paper, you will be Gianna Cole.” I swallow hard at the look in his eyes.

It tells me with complete certainty that this is a fight I will not win.

“You’ll need to swear fealty to us,” I argue, and he just smiles.

“Baby, you’ve had that since the moment I saw you. Whoever I need to kneel for just needs to understand that my loyalty is with you, our child, and my clubs. Fuck everything and anyone else. As long as the mafia is in your good graces, they are in mine.” Well, it’s not perfect, but it should appease Lucia and cancel the order I was given.

“I need to make a call.” I turn for my phone but he stops me.

“Wait, there’s more going on you need to know before you call her.” I do not like the sound of that.

“Go on,” I sit on the edge of the bed.

“It’s probably best if you see it.” He walks over to the dresser and picks up an envelope, bringing it back to me.

I take it and open it carefully.

Your time is up.

“When was this delivered?” I rip the handwritten note into pieces and place them back in the envelope.

“Bruno isn’t sure. A few days before I arrived, he thinks.” I nod, wondering about my activity in Sicily over the last few months.

He must not have been aware of my actions, which is good.

“Gianna?” I look up at him.

“Sorry, lost in thought.” He arches a brow.

“No shit. Tell me what they are cause this isn’t the reaction I was expecting from you.”

My stomach growls, and I stand up to get dressed.

“After breakfast, I’m starving.” He didn’t look convinced, and I can’t blame him.

I will put off admitting that I went after that son of a bitch alone and pregnant as long as possible.

He stole something that didn’t belong to him, and I meant to get it back at whatever the cost. Because my child will have a father she will look up to. Not a shell of a man who’s been robbed of his dignity.

As I watch him dress now, I can see that isn’t the case anymore. He isn’t the broken man I left to find himself.

No.

Nothing about Lucas Cole says broken anymore. Not even his missing leg. I smile to myself as I enter my closet to figure out what to wear.

If anything even fits.
