34. Epilogue
Three Months Later
"Put it there," I told my sister, pointing to a long table already loaded with boxes.
She hefted it up onto the surface beside the others and turned, wiping her hands together. Leaning back against the table, she smiled. "What's next?"
"I think that's it." I gazed around with joy at the new orphanage we'd soon open. We'd take in any child without a home and make sure they not only had a safe place to sleep, but plenty of food and clothing as well. An education, plus whatever they'd need to start a good life once they're grown and ready.
"There's my precious love." Boshun came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, caressing my belly. Curling forward, he kissed my cheek. "How are you feeling? Has the nausea faded?"
We were expecting our first child in six months, and I couldn't wait to hold them. Would they be born with the magic of their parents? Mine wasn't inherited, but the healer said that the lamp's magic altered my makeup and now a child from me and Boshun had a solid chance of being a witch—or wizard.
One day soon, we'd find out.
"You two." Lana rolled her eyes. "Kissing all the time. Touching each other all the time."
"We can't help it," I said with a laugh, gazing up at the love of my life. I'd nearly lost him, and I still hadn't gotten over the fear I'd felt at that time. I wasn't sure I'd ever take him for granted.
As for the lamp, Viscar had made sure it was well hidden inside the treasure room. I wasn't sure how he'd done it, and I wasn't going to ask if he was pure enough in heart to move it himself.
Speaking of Viscar. He strolled into the big open room where we'd serve meals to the orphans, his gaze landing on my sister. Color rose into his face.
Lana's eyes lit up, and after giving me a shy smile, she sauntered toward him. If I knew her, however, before she reached him, she'd suddenly decide she had something to do in another room and flee. They'd been flirting for about a month now, though rarely speaking directly to each other, and one of these days, I was going to nudge her into his arms. I had a feeling she'd like it there, as would he.
"Would you care to take a walk in the gardens behind the building, Lady Lana?" he bravely asked, holding out his arm.
She sucked in a breath, and her eyes widened. For one moment, I thought she'd pivot and run from the room. But she held herself steady. "Gardens? There are no gardens behind the building."
His smile widened, and he winked at me. "There are now. I believe children deserve a place to run and play while surrounded by nature, don't you?"
"Um, oh . . . yes. Yes!" She tucked her hand into the crook of his arm, and he led her toward the hall that exited out back.
"I need to see these gardens," I said, starting to follow.
Boshun caught me from behind and tugged me back. "Maybe give Viscar a chance to woo your sister first?" He shifted my hair to the side and kissed the nape of my neck.
I, of course, melted into his embrace. "Yes, yes. Wooing is very good." Frankly, I was having a hard time speaking—or thinking. It was like that whenever Boshun kissed me.
He turned me in his arms. "Now that we're alone, I'm going to take this opportunity to woo you, my lady love."
My laugh burst out. "We're already married. No wooing needed."
"That's not true, Jasmine." He swept me into his arms and, with a blink, magicked us to our bedroom.
He carried me over to our bed and gently laid me on the surface. Crawling up over me, he gave me a lingering kiss. "There's no such thing as too much wooing."
