Chapter Fifteen

Domani

"Is it over?" Finley asks, lifting her gaze to me as I climb into the back of the SUV beside her. She's exhausted and pale.

"Yeah, tesoro," I murmur, dragging her across the seat into my arms. "It's over." Luca called while we were weighing down their bodies. Everyone at the house is dead. Cillian's foothold in Chicago is gone. And so is he.

A bullet to the head ended his miserable life. But I let him bleed out for a while first. Just to make sure he had a little time to regret the choices he's made. I think part of him did, at least some of them anyway. Like killing his brother.

I hope he rots in hell with regret eating him for eternity.

It's less than he deserves for everything he's put her through. But he's done tormenting her now. He'll never hurt her again. No one will. I'll spend my entire life ensuring it.

That's my job now. Not hunting monsters but protecting this woman from them. She's my purpose. She's my reason. And she's my salvation. Somewhere along the way, she became my healer too. My wounds don't bleed like they once did. My father's crimes don't haunt me like they have for most of my life. She gave me peace when I've never had that.

I didn't even realize it had happened until today. Until I stood across from Cillian and realized that urge to hunt and punish had died. All I wanted to do was protect, defend, and ensure he could never hurt again. That's my mission now.

God can sort out the rest.

"Then take me home, Domani," Finley says, laying her head against my chest. "Take me back to paradise like you promised."

"Anything you want, amore mio," I murmur. "Anything at all."

"Easy. You and me forever. That's what I want."

"Then it's yours, Finley. Io e te per sempre."

"I love you, Domani."

I rest my lips against her crown, already in paradise. Every time she says those words, she takes me there. I doubt she'll ever stop. Fifty years from now, she'll say it, and I'll still feel the same way.

That's what it is to be complete.

That's what it is to belong to her, body and soul.

"Ti amo, tesoro. Ti amo."
