Epilogue Raphael

T he fight is long and drawn-out. Blood flows from both sides but when it all comes to an end, we’ve won.

And I have my mate to soothe my battle wounds and scars. To hold me together over friends lost, loved ones that we will never see again.

I hold Helena tight in our bed, finally able to relax for the first time in what feels like forever. When I found out she was with child, I nearly lost my mind.

I should never have brought her to this place and exposed her and our children to the mindless pace of war.

But she didn’t even falter. She stayed with me the whole time even when I tried to send her away. Her strength is probably what saved me more times than I can count.

And now we’ve got our lovely twins. Our girls, Luna and Dawn.

I never thought I’d actually find a family, a mate like Helena. She’s so strong, so pure of heart.

I don’t deserve her. But I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure that she knows that she’s everything to me. She and our little family.

When our son is born in a few months, I’ll help her. I’ll make sure that she doesn’t work too hard.

And I’ll do my job, protecting what was always meant to be mine. It’s fated and you can’t fight fate.

Ask the demons what I mean by that.

Oh wait, that’s a story for another day. I sigh and hold my mate and listen to the sound of my girls’ soft snores and snuffles down the hall.

And I smile to myself. Peace washes over me and I lean down and kiss her soft cheek, smiling when she smiles in her sleep. No matter what my mate smiles and brings me joy and hope.

“I will bring you the same, mate. I’ll take care of our little family and you forever, no matter what comes.”

The war is over but I will never stop fighting for her love, her heart and soul.

Now that the world is safe, that’s all that matters. Family and love.
