Epilogue

II

Marley

Ten Years Later

“Okay, Nick, you come down out of that tree right now or so help me God, I will bring both grandmothers over here.”

My oldest son is…stubborn. Unfortunately, my hair color is not the only thing he got from me. Most of the time the grandmoms can wrangle him into submission but today the threat of them sure isn’t doing it.

“Honey… where are you?”

“Oh crap!” My son whispers the phrase as he quickly makes his way down the tree.

Grandmas work, but Dad works better. Nick loves his dad and would do anything he asked. He runs to him and smashes into him like a little torpedo. Somehow my husband keeps his feet under him and hugs Nick back.

“Where are Grandma and Grandmama?”

“They took Trixi, Natasha, Noel, and Chris to the movies.”

“Why didn’t you go with the grandmas?” My husband narrows his eyes at our son, probably wondering if he got in trouble and that's why he didn't get to go.

“He had a ball game that ran late and then he was going to help me pick up around the house.”

I added that last thing on for punishment. My husband doesn’t know that and pats Nick on the back.

“That’s a good boy. I like seeing you help your mom like that. As the oldest, it’s your responsibility to look out for her when I’m not here.”

“’Her’ can look after herself. Now go do that chore I was trying to make you…do first, if you don’t mind.”

“Sure Mom. Sorry I argued with you about what… order I was going to do them in.”

I give my son a wink and he winks back before running off to do as I had first asked him. My husband misses nothing though.

“Why do I think the argument about what order things were to be done wasn’t what I walked in on?”

I take him by both sides of the jacket he is wearing and pull him to me. “Because our moms have made us both suspicious as hell and we just expect it.”

Five kids and ten years later, Tannen is still the love of my life, my unwritten fairy tale that we make up as we go. So far, it’s been a damned good book, if I do say so myself.

“The Grandmas have asked to have the kids over tonight?”

“They want another grandkid already?”

“It would seem so but… they’re a little late for that this time.”

I slide my eyes over to look at my husband’s face. The look of happiness and love he gets on his face is something that will never get old -even after he knocked me up with twins.

“You’re…?” I nod and he lets out a whoop before picking me up and spinning me around -very carefully. We share a kiss before Tannen pulls back so our eyes can meet. “I told you last week you were. Old Tannen can taste the difference in his lady’s pussy." He whispers the last word so Nick doesn't hear. "Didn’t I tell you?”

I roll my eyes and give him another kiss before agreeing with him. He did tell me I tasted pregnant last week, five days before I took the test.

“Stop gloating and carry your wife into our house so we can prepare for tonight…and make sure Nick is really cleaning.”

He sweeps me up into his arms and we head for the back door. Yep, this is the fairy tale life I always dreamed about, and I couldn’t have written it any better.

The End!
