Chapter Ten

Lyric

Missy stands at the sink, her back to me, shoulders moving up and down as though she's crying. The soft, muffled sound of her sobs tug at me. I clear my throat, and her hands fly to her face as she wipes away her tears.

"Are you okay?"

Turning around, Missy forces a smile. "I'm just peachy. How are you, Lyric?" Her eyes are red and puffy, the remnants of her tears still visible.

"You don't seem fine." I point over my shoulder. "I just saw Feral at the bar. Did he—"

Missy's hands fly in the air, her face contorting with rage. "That little motherfucker! I bet he couldn't wait to tell everyone, could he? Yeah, so what? I fucked him. He lasted all of a minute with his micropenis!"

Surprised at her outburst, I hold up my hands. "No, you misunderstand me. I thought he might have hurt you. I came in here to check on you, to make sure you're okay."

Missy strides toward me, eyes blazing, shaking her head. "Sure you did. Little Miss ‘I've been here all of a week and now have Highway all to myself.' How long do you think that will last before he's sticking his dick somewhere else? You don't think I haven't had that man inside me?" She smiles and nods slowly, a triumphant glint in her eye. "I've let him fuck me any way he wants." Missy puts her hands on her hips and licks her lips. "He'll be back. They always come back."

"Yeah, but they don't stay."

Missy looks taken aback. "What?"

Crossing my arms across my chest, I give her a once-over. "I came in here to be a friend to you, Missy. I was concerned about you. Do you have any female friends? I'm thinking no. You see, Missy, good women lift each other up and aren't in competition with them. But you?" I shake my head. "Do you really think you have a chance with any of the men in the MC? You don't because they can tell you're damaged goods, and no one wants to keep damaged goods. Sure, you might be used from time to time, but not forever."

Missy lets out an almighty scream, reverberating through the kitchen. She lunges at me, her eyes wild with fury. Her nails slash through the air, narrowly missing my face as I sidestep, but I feel a sharp sting as they scrape down my arm. Pain flares, but I don't hesitate. Drawing back my fist, I channel all my anger and frustration into a single punch. It connects with the side of her jaw, a solid impact that sends her spinning. She crashes into the kitchen counter, a mix of shock and pain flashing across her face as she slams against it.

"You fucking bitch!" Missy screams.

"Calm the fuck down." I have my hands in front of me as I back away from her.

"You think you're better than me? You're not. None of you are. You're all club whores." Missy's voice is sharp and bitter as she picks up a knife from the kitchen counter, her knuckles white from gripping it so tightly.

"Missy, you don't want to do this." My voice trembles slightly, but I hold my ground.

A tear rolls down her cheek as she hesitantly steps toward me. "Maybe I do. I'm so sick of being the club's plaything. I want to be an Ol' Lady, but women like you keep showing up and stealing what's mine."

"Highway was never yours." My words hang in the air, charged with tension.

The kitchen door bursts open, and Highway strides in. His eyes dart from me to Missy and back, surprise momentarily crossing his face before a more primal and dangerous look takes over. In a flash, he rushes past me and grabs Missy's wrist, the one with the knife. "Drop it, or I'll drop you," he growls out, his voice low and menacing.

"She started it," Missy whines, her voice trembling.

"And I'm ending it," Highway states firmly.

The knife slips from Missy's grasp, clattering loudly on the kitchen floor. Highway's intense gaze shifts to me, his expression softening slightly.

"Are you okay?" he asks, concern evident in his eyes.

The scratch marks down my arm sting, and I notice a trickle of blood dripping onto the floor. "I'm fine," I reply, trying to sound more confident than I feel.

Highway's eyes narrow as he looks at my arm. "You don't look fine. Go see Justice… get him to take you to medical. I'll be along in a minute."

I nod, reluctantly turning to leave.

The adrenaline still courses through my veins, and my heart pounds as I make my way out of the kitchen, leaving Highway to deal with Missy.
