Chapter 10
Sophia
I was long past putting on a brave front. As the sun started to lower behind the mountains and give way to nightfall, my hopes that he ' d find me were holding on by a thread.
" Aliyah . You said earlier that your name was Aliyah, right?"
" I ' m never going to find out who murdered the husband if you keep interrupting me. "
" Well, I ' m sorry, " I snapped. " You just kidnapped me and I might never see the man I love again because of you ." Tears filled my eyes. " I may never get to say goodbye. "
" If your bond is strong enough , then he ' ll find you. If not then it won ' t matter will it? "
" How can you be so heartless? "
" Heartless? Me? You should be thanking me. I ' m the one who is going to save you both from yourselves. You ' re welcome. "
" That ' s rich. When he finds me – and he will find me – I ' ll get you back for this."
A burst of laughter erupted from her. " Honey, you ' re a human. I ' m about as scared of you as I am of a bunny rabbit. Just sit tight."
" He loves me. "
" We ' ll see." Turning her head, she looked through the window I ' d been peering out. " Sun 's almost gone. Tick-tock, Sophia. Tick-tock. I had high hopes for you two, I really did."
" He ' ll find me," I whispered.
As the day wore on I realized that she was right about one thing. The panic within me, the panic I was feeling at the prospect of never seeing my werewolf lover again made me realize that I couldn ' t leave here. Not without him.
My life outside of this town was shallow. Until I arrived here, I spent my days hoping to fill a hole within me that I wasn ' t able to fill with shopping, or parties, or followers on Instagram. What I needed, money could never buy.
In one week, I realized that I needed more. I needed that second half of me. I needed a partner who would love me despite my faults. Someone who would stand with me through everything life had to throw at us. That was what was missing, what I ' d been searching for.
What I ' d been searching for. What I ' d been needing was Roosevelt.
The sun disappeared leaving darkness.
When would our time end? At midnight? Or would we have until sunrise? I hadn ' t thought to ask about the specifics of the curse.
Then it happened. A howl bellowed in the night. A howl so loud and powerful that it sent shivers down my spine.
Roosevelt. It was him. I could feel him getting closer.
I sat up straight against the pole, wiping the tears on the shoulder of my t-shirt. " He ' s coming. I can feel him. "
" ' Bout fucking time. I was starting to think he ' d never show. " Getting up, she placed the book on the tiny bookshelf that contained perhaps a couple dozen books.
The howl sounded again. Closer this time.
My pussy clenched as if anticipating our reunion.
" That ' s my cue to get the fuck out of here. " Making her way over to the front door she opened it up and then turned back to look at me. " You can thank me tomorrow. See you around , human." She left the front door open and disappeared out of sight.
" Could have at least untied me ," I grumbled. " I still gotta pee."
If that howl wasn ' t Roosevelt I ' d be screwed. Any creature could just walk on in with the front door left wide open.
Another howl.
And then he appeared. A large gray wolf, with the amber eyes that I ' d grown to love in just six days. " Roosevelt, " I whispered, knowing he could hear me even being as far away as he was.
The wolf started to charge toward the cabin, and as he charged he began to transform. By the time he reached the door, my Roosevelt was standing in all his naked glory with a wide grin on his lips that sent my heart soaring.
" About time you showed up ," I teased, tears filling my eyes as I struggled to my feet.
" Who did this to you? " he asked, coming to me and quickly working the knots on my binds.
" She said her name was Aliyah. "
" She was in on it with the mayor. I ' d bet on it. "
The moment the ropes went slack I leaped into his arms, holding tight to him and burying my face against his neck. " I was so scared I ' d never see you again. The thought of never seeing you was more than I could bear. " I pulled back from him, my gaze locking onto his.
Cupping my cheek in his hand, he lowered his forehead to mine.
" I came as fast as I could. I feared I ' d never make it in time. I ' ve never been so scared, Sophia. I never want to be without you. Don ' t leave. Please don ' t leave. I love you, baby. I love you with every ounce of my being."
And just like that, I felt whole. My heart had led me to this town – and to him. And his heart had found me, too.
"I love you. It doesn ' t matter where we raise our cubs, in this town or in the outside world, as long as I ' m with you." I stroked his cheek. "Forever."
"Forever."
