13. Maddie
The next day, Maddie sat in the passenger seat of Ian's SUV as they headed towards the attorney's office for the reading of the will.
Things had been awkward after Ian had gotten home from the gym, and Maddie made a point to stay in her bedroom for as much of the day as she could. She told him she had some work to catch up on. But really, she spent the day doing coloring on a coloring book app and thinking about the situation that had played out in bed that morning.
When Ian had gotten out of bed all flustered and rambled on as he walked to the bathroom, she found it quite funny. Calm, cool, and collected Ian was all bent out of shape by her asking to touch his cock. When she'd told him she was a virgin, she thought his head was going to explode. She kind of liked knocking the wind out of his sails. Usually, he knew exactly what to say, so seeing him so off-kilter was fun.
She'd thought about his cock for most of the day and wondered what it would taste like. If it would be smooth and velvety like the ones she'd read about in the books or if his semen would taste salty or sweet. After Ian had left for the gym, she had gotten back in bed and played with her clit as those thoughts ran through her head. It didn't take long before she was arching and moaning his name as she came. Her orgasm was so intense and draining that she had even fallen back asleep afterward for a bit.
"Ready?" he asked.
Maddie blinked and realized they were parked, and the engine was turned off. She nodded and waited for him to come around and open her car door. He'd lectured her one too many times about not opening her own car door. He always told her that if a man didn't open her car door for her, she was too good for him. She didn't know if that was true or not, but she did know that she didn't dare try to open the door with him.
Once they were inside, the receptionist led them back to an office and opened the door. Maddie walked in with Ian right behind her. She was nervous, and she didn't really know why. She knew Cam would most likely leave everything he had to her, and she didn't care about any of it. She would rather have her brother back.
A man around the same age as Ian stood from behind the large desk and held out his hand.
"Ian, good to see you. I wish it were under a different circumstance."
Ian stepped forward and shook the man's hand.
"Andrew, this is Madison, Cameron's sister. Maddie, this is Andrew Bates."
Andrew held out his hand for Maddie and gave her a firm handshake. She was surprised at how handsome the man was. She had always pictured attorneys as rich old bald men with sharp tempers. You know, like the dad in the movie Clueless. However, this man was tall, with a full head of dark hair that had a bit of silver mixed in at the temples. His suit was crisp and fitted, and he had a gorgeous set of dark blue eyes. Definitely not the dad from Clueless.
"Nice to meet you, Madison. I am so sorry about your loss. Cameron was a very good man. I'm also sorry I couldn't make it to the funeral. I was out of town on business and just returned yesterday."
She smiled and nodded, "That's okay. And thank you. Cam was really special."
Andrew motioned for them to sit down and offered beverages before taking a seat behind his desk.
"You two are the only ones listed on the will, so it will only be the three of us today. Before I get to that, each year, when Cameron updated his will, he would provide me with a letter of his last wishes that he asked that I read aloud if the time ever came."
Maddie looked over at Ian, who was staring ahead toward Andrew. He must have sensed her eyes on him because he looked over and gave her a small smile before reaching over to grab her hand. He nodded toward Andrew.
Andrew cleared his throat, "Before I read the letter, I need to let you know that this is just his last wishes which are completely separate from the will. The will is a legally binding document. This is not."
Maddie and Ian both nodded and waited silently for him to start.
"My sweet Madison and my best friend, Ian, I hope this letter will never have to be read to you, but if it is, please know that I love you both so much. I have had an extremely happy and blessed life and gotten to experience so many things with the two people that I love the most in this world. Please don't mourn for long because it isn't what I want. I want you both to live your fullest and happiest lives possible. I promise I will never be far from either of you. When you think of me, make sure to remember all the good times we had and smile. I don't want you to cry for me. I am still in your hearts forever.
Ian, please take care of my baby sister. I know she means as much to you as she does to me. Don't let her push you away. I need you to look out for her, protect her and give her the love that she needs. The last thing I will request from you is that you move Madison in with you and take care of her until she is married. It is important to me that you give your blessing to whoever she wishes to marry, as long as you approve of the man she chooses. Please take care of my baby sister. I trust you. Thank you for being the best friend a man could ever ask for and for loving me like family. You are the best man I have ever known, and I love you.
Madison, my sweet bug, I love you with all of me. You are beautiful, kind, intelligent, and the best person I have ever known. Please don't live in sadness because I'm gone. I know your heart, and I know you will be sad, but please find it in you to make yourself happy again. Do that for me, please. I want you to live with Ian just as you would have lived with me until you were married. He will take care of you and give you what you need. Behave for him. He only wants what's best for you. Please do this for me so I can rest in peace knowing my baby sister is safe. Always remember that it is okay to be who you are and never change for anyone. I love you, sweet girl. Be good. Love, Cam."
She began to sob uncontrollably, her entire body trembling. Ian reached over and pulled her into his lap, hugging her close.
"Shhh… baby, I got you. I got you. Shhh."
He repeated the words over and over until she had quieted. When she looked at him, she realized he was crying too, and that made the sobs start all over again. They had both lost someone they loved. Ian was hurting too. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly. It was a long while until she had calmed down and realized that Andrew was no longer in the office.
"Where did he go?" she asked shakily.
Ian wiped his eyes dry and leaned his forehead on her arm.
"He stepped out for a few to give us some time."
Maddie nodded and tried to move from his lap, but he held onto her. When she turned to look at him, his eyes were firm.
"We are going to follow your brother's last wishes. You are moving in with me permanently, Maddie. I had already planned on you moving in with me, but I knew I couldn't make you if you didn't want to. You do not have a choice in this now. Understand?"
A shiver ran down her spine at his words. She wouldn't go against her brother's wishes, but the way Ian confirmed it made her head spin. Living with Ian until she was married. Considering she never planned on marrying anyone because no one else was Ian, she would be living with him for a long time.
"Madison, do you understand me?"
She brought her attention back to him and nodded, "Yes. I understand."
"Good girl."
Andrew came back in and asked if they were ready to proceed. Maddie got up from Ian's lap, feeling slightly disappointed that he had let her go that time.
The will was mostly what she had expected. Cameron's assets were left to her except his sports car, which he left for Ian. She knew that was deliberate because neither of the men would ever allow her to drive a dangerous vehicle like that. She rolled her eyes, and Ian gave her a stern look. Cam also left fifty-one percent of his business to Ian so that he could keep the company running, while Maddie would have forty-nine percent, so she would continue to get income for the rest of her life from the earnings.
After Andrew finished up, he had both of them sign several documents and told Madison that her four million dollars in monetary assets would be deposited into her bank account within two weeks. He let her know the other seven million dollars in assets, which was the house in Colorado, several expensive art pieces, and three different pieces of empty property that he owned in Washington and Oregon, were hers to decide what to do with. She nodded, though she felt overwhelmed with the thought of handling all that.
"Thanks, Andrew. I will help Maddie figure out what she wants to do with all of that, and we will be in touch."
Andrew stood and shook Ian's hand and gave Maddie a gentle smile.
"It was very nice to meet you, Madison. Please let me know if you need anything or have any questions."
She nodded and let Ian usher her out of the office.
