84. A Sisters Concern

SCARLETT

I was sat with a hot drink in my hand looking at Indigo, who was sitting there silently as Elijah held her. She had argued with me and it had taken Elijah a lot to calm me down. I had been so angry that Fred had done this to her. More so, I was angry at myself for not seeing it. Yes, I saw that with time she had become quieter, but people change with time. Never would I have thought she was being abused. I put her change down to her countless miscarriages, that they were the reason for her quieter mood and the emotions that sometimes filled her eyes. I just wished I had known.

When had Indigo become so… timid? She had always been confident, feisty and headstrong. Even when Daniel, her best friend, had found his mate Jake, she had given the guy a tough telling off. She said that if he ever hurt Daniel, she'd make him pay. Indigo was never the type to just sit back. I took the seat on the other side of her.

"Indy…"

She looked at me, her eyes dull and sadness swirling in those navy-blue orbs of hers.

"I don't want to hear it." She said.

"I"m not going to say anything." I said softly.

"He isn"t answering… I"m… I"m worried, he didn't even say goodbye. I will never forgive Alejandro for this. If anything happens to him… I know he's planned something." Indigo said, her eyes flashing. I stroked her hair.

"He's only trying to help."

"I don't need his help! I told him countless times! I need no one!" Indigo growled.

‘I wanted to kill him myself.' Elijah's voice came through the link as our eyes met.

‘In a way… it's better Alejandro took care of it. Do you really think he's sent him to his death as Indigo proclaims?' I asked.

‘Bill is an incompetent fool of an Alpha. He doesn"t even keep those lands secure and rogues run free there. It's not really safe at all... He won't make it…' Elijah's voice came as he looked at Indigo with guilt and sadness rolling off him.

‘This is not your fault.' I said firmly through the link, I knew he felt responsible as he saw her more than I did.

‘I should have picked up on it, Kitten.' His reply came as he sighed. I placed my hand over his and rested my head against Indigo's.

"Indy… This baby needs you… You deserve happiness and Fred abused that bond. Come home with us... Let me take care of you. Let us be there for you. Daniel would be so happy to have you there too." I said.

"So, you know he won"t make it back." She said, her voice breaking.

"I didn't say that." I said sighing.

"Why didn't anyone stop him from making such a decision? Kiara could have…" She sounded broken and I wish I knew what to say. "I"m going home, I just want to sleep…"

I don't know why, but I didn't trust her alone.

"I'll come with you."

"Aren"t you supposed to be leaving tonight?" She asked standing up.

"No, we're leaving tomorrow morning and we're taking you with us." Elijah said firmly. His eyes were dark cobalt as he looked Indigo straight in the eye.

"No, I have to wait for Fred…" She said, wiping her tears. "If he doesn"t make it… I swear…."

She didn't finish it off and walked out.

"Indigo!" I called.

"I just need some space, Scar…" She said, "I swear I"m just going for a walk around the mansion."

Elijah wrapped his arms around me and pulled me against his chest. The sparks that hummed through me made me lean into him, inhaling his scent.

"I don't want Mama to know… She'll break if she finds out." I said, nuzzling my nose against his neck.

"We'll figure something out, Red." He said, his sexy voice soothing the crashing waves that were consuming me.

"I hope so… I know I sent Kia off with Alejandro, but I"m worried about her too." I said, running my fingers through my hair.

He looked down at me, frowning with displeasure.

"Yeah… but I don't think he'd harm her."

"I guess not. The fact they're mates is still…" I said.

"Yeah, I know. He's like what? Three years younger than you…?" Elijah said, displeased. I smirked slightly.

"That's true. Looking back, I remember that time at Raihana's second birthday and how he saved her… I know he had been mean with what he said back then, but do you know he told Kiara she's perfect as she is? Before they were even mates." I said, smiling softly.

Elijah's eyes narrowed.

"So, they were flirting before the mate bond." He muttered.

Well, I was not going to mention that they had been doing a lot more than that…

"Meaningless flirting, handsome. You can't really complain." I said, leaning up. I brushed the frown lines from between his brows. "You're looking grumpier by the day."

"Do you blame me when there"s always something or other stressing me out?" He said, giving me a look.

"Oh… is my man tense? I know a few ways to calm you down…" I suggested seductively.

Running my hands down his chest, smirking slightly as he licked his lips, his tongue piercing flashing as it caught the light.

"I like the sound of that…" He leant down, about to kiss me when someone whistled.

I turned and glared at Rafael.

"Sorry… Am I interrupting anything?"

"Yeah, you were." Elijah growled.

"Well… As much as I'd love to say to you to carry on, I was wondering if you two wanted to go down to see the Rogue? That Wendigo you guys caught, Kiara turned it back. He's fed and a little calmer now. Darien thought maybe we could get some more information out of him."

"Sounds like a plan." Elijah said, despite him looking me over slowly, his eyes darkening with lust.

‘We'll continue this later.' He said through the link.

‘I can't wait.' I replied. He kissed my lips passionately before we both followed Rafael out.

I stopped in the kitchen where Raihana and Maria were cooking something, asking them to keep an eye on Indigo whilst we were gone. I could see her outside and knew that, in the long run, she'd be ok. Maybe the goddess would gift her with a second chance mate…
