I wasn’t listening to Draven talk. How could I when there was a plug shoved up my ass vibrating 100 times a second? “Oh, I just asked what you do for work. Ciel didn’t tell us much about you before tonight, so you’re a bit of a mystery to us.”

“Yes, well, Ciel’s still a mystery to me.” I laughed and looked over at Ciel, whose eyes gazed so intensely into mine, I worried he would cut right through me. “I’m actually looking for a job at the moment. If you know of any openings at museums, bookstores, libraries, etc., I have a lot of experience in archival and preservation. I’m also not above stocking shelves and the like, but I’m hoping to eventually get some work in my field of expertise.”

Teddy nodded his head vigorously. “We’ll definitely let you know. Have you talked to the Librarian at the Monsters’ Sanctuary Library? They’re always looking for help, though I think most of it is volunteer work.”

“That reminds me of a story,” Draven said, and he launched into another one of his probably riveting tales. It was a shame I wouldn’t be present to hear it.

Draven shot me a suspicious glare, but I glared back at him until he gave up. Did he know? Did my flushed cheeks give it away, or the dent in my lip where I bit down so hard I nearly drew blood all in an effort to keep quiet, or the shimmer in my eyes that was only present post-climax?

It didn’t matter now. We were finished, and now we got to go home and, if I was lucky, do it all over again.
