Chapter Twenty-Seven
Link
Gravel crunched beneath the tires of the SUV when they reached the motel parking lot. Link parked and got out. He stretched, bone weary and fucking hungry as all hell. He was fiercely glad that Ice and Fisher had taken up the task of chasing after Elron.
Link was coming up on forty in a few years and Eagle had already seen that number a year ago. If he was being honest, retiring was beginning to seem less like a distant thought and more like a current reality. He wondered what Eagle would think of that. They both had money tucked away—enough to retire comfortably, and the thought of maybe taking fewer jobs with Pegasus took root and wouldn’t go away.
Eagle’s arm slipped over his shoulders and before he knew it, they were inside his room with the door shut.
Tearing off his tactical vest, Link dropped it along with his two handguns, ammo belt, and combat knife onto the table with a clank.
Kicking off his boots, he made it as far as the bed and then sank down before flopping onto his back. The fan overhead spun slowly above him.
Without saying a word, Eagle placed his gear and weapons on the table and kicked off his boots. Sitting next to him, Eagle dropped back. Link shut his eyes when the man’s big fingers combed slowly through his hair, brushing it back from his forehead.
Turning on his side, Link curled into Eagle. Arms like iron closed around him and that was the last thing he felt until much later when Eagle stripped them both and tucked him under the covers before joining him there.
The years they’d spent together as friends but apart from doing this, had a lump growing in Link’s throat. So much wasted time spent thinking this was a bad idea when in his opinion, this right here was the best idea ever. They’d fallen into such a good friendship in the beginning, Link hadn’t wanted to jeopardize that. But fuck…how stupid was that? Eagle squeezed his big arms around him as if sensing his sorrow. Link wanted to tell him that he wasn’t sad, but more regretful. Now? Now it was time to move toward a future that included them together, and Link drifted off with that picture in his head.
Sometime during the night, he writhed when Eagle’s slick fingers were priming his ass, and he gasped into the man’s mouth, moaning his approval when Eagle slipped his cock inside. Link groaned and gyrated beneath Eagle, wrapping him up tightly until they both found release.
They fell asleep wrapped together.
Link woke up to the scent of coffee and blinked against the room’s brightness to find Eagle holding a cup out, with one knee on the bed.
“Mmmm, thanks.” He pulled himself up and cradled the cup. “What time is it?” He took a long sip of the hot brew.
“About two in the morning.”
Eagle wore a pair of unbuttoned blue jeans and sank to the edge of the bed; his smoky blue eyes were solemn and a bit sad.
“What’s wrong?” Link could feel the worry coming off the man in waves.
“I’m worried about him.” Eagle studied his hands.
“Me too.” Link smirked when Eagle’s head snapped up.
“I love that I don’t need to tell you who, you just know.” Eagle huffed a small sound.
“I get you like nobody else,” Link murmured.
“Yes, you do.”
“So, what are we doing?”
“I want to drive by the foster house and check in on him.”
Link smiled. “Sounds perfect.”
“How do we get the address?” Eagle let out a breath.
“You leave that to me.” Link reached over and plucked his phone from the bedside table and dialed Jordan.
“Hey, Jordan, can you get me the address of the foster home they took Tyler to?”
“On it,” Jordan said in a groggy voice.
Link tossed his phone on the bed. “There. See? It pays to have people in high places.”
“Now why didn’t I think of that?” Eagle chuckled and lifted up to kiss his lips.
“Because I’m your smarter half?”
Eagle’s bark of laughter brought a smile so wide to Link’s lips that his cheeks hurt.
They still had a shit ton of things to talk about and resolve, and Link didn’t want to put that off any longer.
Bang, bang.
A fist hit the door, making him jump. Damn it. Always something interrupting.
Eagle got up and checked the window and then yanked open the door. Link jerked up the sheet to cover his groin and a used condom wrapper fell to the floor.
“What now?” Eagle glared at a grinning Dalton.
“Ice and Fisher got a lead on Elron. Thought you’d like to be there.” Dalton smirked.
“I think they can handle it,” Eagle said and then glanced at Link. “Unless you want to…”
“Why not?” Link smiled. “We’ll be right out.”
Eagle looked disgruntled and Link laughed. “Come on. You know you want to see that asshole arrested. And even if you don’t, I want to see that asshole arrested.”
Eagle snorted and then gave a rueful smile. “You’re right.”
“See? Told ya.”
“Smart aleck.”
“We’ve already established that.”
“Don’t let it go to your head.” Eagle squinted.
“I like it when you go to my head.” Link stood from the bed and stretched, aware that Eagle’s heat-filled smoky blue eyes were on him. Link’s cock was hard and thrusting away from his body and he ran a hand down his abs to stroke his dick, watching the way Eagle’s eyes darkened and he licked his lips.
“We don’t have time,” Link whispered.
“Fuck,” Eagle snarled and stalked closer, gripping him by the back of his neck with one hand and his cock with the other. Link lifted to his toes and moaned when Eagle gripped him tightly before taking his mouth in a bone-crushing kiss—then oh so slowly, Eagle pulled away.
Link was gasping when Eagle released his cock and stepped back.
“Not fair,” he rasped.
“Rain check,” Eagle grumbled and started pulling on his boots and a shirt.
Rain check would be more like a thunderstorm, Link thought and hurried to the restroom. He ran cold water over his body in the shower until his cock went soft, dried, and was ready in less than ten minutes.
Eagle had disappeared into the room he’d shared with Jordan, and Link met the unit at the Pegasus vehicles.
They were dressed in tactical gear again, this time all black.
They were coming and so was the end of Elron’s reign.
If they could find the bastard.
