Chapter 11

eleven

S erenity awoke to the slant of sun across her eyes. She frowned, keeping her eyes closed, trying to think of why that would happen. Her bedroom faced the west. When she thought she would be able to take the sun, she opened her eyes.

This was not her bed, or her house. Of course, it wasn’t her bed. It wasn’t like someone would break into her house and leave a massive bed. She pulled herself up to her elbows and looked around.

Adam and Mick’s bedroom. And she was alone. How is it that she went to bed with two men and still found herself alone?

Jesus . She collapsed onto the bed as memories of the previous night came rushing back to her. She’d slept with two men…at the same time. Who did that kind of thing? Apparently, she did.

She closed her eyes. It had never been a fantasy of hers to have two men simultaneously. As she had thought before, she couldn't handle one man all that well. Her relationships had either been volatile or boring. Lately, they had been non-existent. It wasn't that she shunned men, but she didn't have a reason to venture out.

Now that wasn't true. She had avoided fixups from the few friends she had on the island. She just didn't have the time or energy for a relationship.

Once she’d stepped into that arena, she had picked two men. Good God, her last shrink was right. She set herself up for failure every time. How was this even supposed to work? And, all of her reasons for doing it had flown out the window just because they made her hot.

She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling. It was hard to feel badly about the sex, but a relationship was out of the question. She lived right next door. When it ended--and all of her relationships did--it would be awkward.

She sat up and looked around the room. She didn't want to get dressed back into her clothes. If she was going to have only one night with these men, she wanted to stay naked as much as possible.

She spotted a blue dress shirt. Slipping out of bed, she grabbed it and headed to the bathroom.

After turning on the light, she stared at herself in the mirror. Jesus. She had whisker burn all over her body, little splotches of red that revealed to her every part of her body they had kissed, licked, and tasted.

She shivered. Just the memory of the lovemaking had her body revving up for another round. God, what was she going to do? They tempted her into believing they could just play and have fun. But consequences always came with daylight, and she knew in the morning it would be hard to pretend this was about having fun. It was most definitely that, but she was already growing attached. Hell, she had been growing attached since they showed up at her door begging for more bread. They were just so sweet and adorable. She smiled thinking about how Adam didn’t like to be called sweet.

Her smile faded. Dammit, she was already attached. Worse, they didn’t need her. They were a couple who had been together for years. They had each other.

With a sigh, she set the shirt on the counter. After relieving herself, she slipped the shirt on and went in search of the guys.

She heard the rumble of male voices in the kitchen and followed the sound. She knew it was wrong, but she stood just out of sight so she could hear the conversation.

“Come on, Mick. You know women don't go for that kind of thing. They don't want to be a third in a relationship. Especially with two guys who have been committed to each other as long as we have.”

She frowned. It wasn’t something she thought of, at least not until recently, but she knew Adam was right. Most women didn’t want to be a third wheel. They liked to be the center of attention. Although, last night, she was exactly that. Having two men focus just on her was something that she had never had and, dammit, it was exhilarating. It was also addicting, which might be an issue.

“But if she wanted to, you would be open to it?” Mick asked.

There was no noise, but from Mick's next response, Serenity assumed that Adam nodded.

“See.”

“There is no see . We also have another side to our bed play with women. You haven't even approached her about that.”

Another side?

“Come on. You saw her last night. She liked being told what to do. She kneeled on the bed without having to be ordered. Fucking sexy.”

“We still have to talk to her about it.”

“It isn't something you can slip into casual conversation,” Mick said.

“That never stopped you before.”

Mick snorted. “We’ll never know unless we ask.

“True, but if you ask too early, we might frighten her off.”

Adam was talking about her like she was a little scaredy cat. She had heard enough. She stepped into the kitchen. They were sitting at the counter, each had a cup of coffee in front of them.

Neither of them noticed her to begin with, and she was glad for it. It gave her time to look them over. Both were wearing jean shorts and nothing else. In fact, she was sure Mick’s shorts weren’t even buttoned.

As Adam moved, she watched the ripple of muscle in his back and had to bite back a sigh. Mick wasn’t any better. He stretched his hands over his head. Oh, God. How did she land these two men? They were gorgeous and hot and amazing in bed. And she knew for a fact they had only shown her just a peek of what they could do.

“I say we ask her and get it over with,” Mick said.

Adam opened his mouth to answer, but she decided it was better to face this head on.

“Just what is it that you want to ask me?”
