5. Drevi
I t's been six months since I last saw her smile. I don't know how my brothers are content with this arrangement. Each day without her feels like an eternity. When I came back from my stay in the Underworld, I threw myself into the job. It was the only way I could stay sane without her being here.
As I turn from the windows that overlook the casino floor, there is a knock on my door. "I'm busy, go away."
"Even I know you're not that busy, brother," War states as he pops his head in the door. "Besides, I have a surprise you don't want to miss."
The door opens a little wider, and then to my disbelief, she trots in like a dream, a smile wide on her face.
I stand and race over to her. "I have missed you."
She wraps her arms around me. "And I, you."
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"Helping Frank plan the Halloween party."
"Good luck with that, he is a control freak when it comes to party planning." I laugh.
"Oh, I can think of a few ways to soften him up." She chuckles in my arms. "What time are you off? War says you're working long hours."
"My assistant comes in, in about an hour. I can get away then," I promise.
"That is good to hear; maybe we can all have dinner and a movie tonight. Got any new ones?" she asks, her icy-blue eyes lit up.
"I got one or two. But you get to pick, then my brothers can't bitch about what we watch."
"Deal!" She squeezes me one more time before letting go. "Now, I'm off to soften Frank up."
My heart is a little lighter with her so near.
