Chapter 4: Reign
Chapter Four
Reign
T here was something off about the siren from the moment I first spotted her stumbling her way into the club.
I just couldn’t place what it was.
Chaos gets very few Seelie fae patrons, but that’s because Black Cove is a vampire, demon, and Unseelie hub. Never having seen her before, I knew I needed to step in, so no one more questionable than me had the chance to approach her.
My instincts were spot-on, and everything I’ve learned since only proves that point more fully.
My body pulses with euphoria as her fangs pierce my flesh.
I do enjoy a good bite from time to time, although not in the way the sweet, newly turned vampire does.
I am the aftermath of a love affair between a dark fae and a nightmare.
Mimics are so rare, our conception is nearly considered forbidden, especially because we can take any shape or form, including pure shadows.
I rarely bother with that form. Having a physical body is my preference, but that, too, comes with its own costs.
To mimic the form of a being, like I’m pretending to be human now, I must first kill it by my own hand and then consume its flesh. A little like a zombie or ghoul but without the heinous exterior.
I’m sure the little not-quite-a-siren doesn’t have the first clue what I am. And I’m unreasonably fascinated by that. She’s out of her depth in Black Cove.
My mind gets hazy as I grind my cock against her core.
Fucking hell.
Her venom is potent.
I’ve been bitten on occasion over the last several hundred years.
Vampires are nearly unheard of in the fae realm of Faere, but the human realm is filled to the brim with the bloodsuckers.
I groan, tilting my head until I’m close enough to study her scent. My nostrils flare as I try to determine why her venom is so potent.
It’s always a euphoric feeling being bitten by a vampire, but in my two thousand years of life, I’ve never spilled my seed in my trousers like an adolescent.
“Gods, woman,” I groan, pulling her core up and down over my zipper.
Human clothing is obnoxiously tight. It’s grown more constricting over the years, which I find quite the nuisance.
Her naughty little tongue flicks over my flesh as her fangs clamp deeper. It causes another dose of venom to pulse through my system, making my already throbbing cock jolt.
Well, this is going to be embarrassing. The thought barely has time to form before I’m slamming her against the wall with force as my balls tighten and my cock jerks. A powerful orgasm rips through me as her venom pulses again.
I grind against her with zero shame.
She should be lucky I’m immortal.
Otherwise, I’d be dead right now.
My knees begin to shake as my vision goes hazy, but luckily, the wall is keeping her up. “Enough, lovely.”
She hisses and gulps even more deeply.
“Someone left you ill-prepared for our world,” I murmur, moving a hand to palm her head. “But unless you’d like to leave me a bloodless husk, I’m going to have to ask you to stop.”
The little vampire huffs, and I briefly consider allowing her to drain me dry. It’s a ludicrous thought. Spending the next several weeks replenishing is not high on my imaginary to-do list, but she does appear to be truly starving.
Where is her maker?
I’d like to have words with them.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Novak always sounds dangerous, but his tone seems especially lethal as it breaks the quiet of the moment.
She yelps as her fangs retract from my skin.
Blood bubbles from the wound, and she slaps a hand over it.
“Oh, no! I don’t know how to heal the bite,” she whispers, shoving her fingers into her teeth marks.
It doesn’t feel great, but I ignore the minor inconvenience.
“There are laws in Black Cove,” Novak growls.
That self-righteous bastard.
There are rules, but he doesn’t follow a single one of them.
“Lick the bite, and your saliva will heal the wound,” I tell her, ignoring my business partner.
“You must spend a lot of time with vampires.” She tugs her hand away, lapping at the bite just before my healing kicks in to do it for her.
I frown, realizing my oldest friend in the human realm will be able to scent my current state.
He’s an ancient vampire, after all.
The heckling will be never ending.
I place the baby vamp on her feet as she wiggles her legs.
Novak appears at our side.
I tilt my head, allowing my eyes to flash back to their natural state. It’s unfortunate, because the decay will now set in.
I’ve got no more than thirty minutes before this form will wither and die.
“I see,” he says with humor lining his tone.
“I have to go.” She gives my chest a shove that wouldn’t have a hope of moving me. However, I’m posing as a human, so I instantly step back.
The darling little thing trips over her heels in an attempt to flee.
Grasping her thick hips, I give them a tender squeeze as I keep her from face-planting into the concrete.
How intriguing.
She truly should have better control of her faculties.
I’ve never seen a vampire without the utmost grace. She seems a bit like a newborn foal just learning their footing as she flails.
It’s… charming .
No, that can’t be right.
I appreciate understated grace.
“Okay, that was close,” she mutters, shoving her hair behind her ear.
Fine.
She is quite cute, even if she’s a disaster.
“I’ll see you around, little vampire,” I muse, releasing her.
“Uh, thanks,” she mutters. “Bye.” And with that, she zips away quicker than this set of human eyes I’m using can track.
“Who was that?” Novak asks in an intrigued tone that makes me consider removing his head from his shoulders.
“I didn’t get a name,” I tell him truthfully. “I’m more concerned that she was running around on empty. She’s a fledgling. If I’m not mistaken, she stated she was turned less than a week ago.”
“No newly turned vampires have been reported to the town council,” he says, now sounding more interested than before.
“She’s not for you,” I growl, sounding unreasonable and mildly petulant.
Novak chuckles darkly. “You know how good I am at sharing.”
I scoff. “And you know how terrible I am in return.”
He laughs. “Well, in that case, I suppose we’ll have to wait and see what happens if she comes back tomorrow night.”
I made a big mistake by laying my cards on the table.
Hmm.
Maybe I’ll have to send the vampire to his final death, after all.
