MARCH 7TH
Kai
A hand touchedthe small of her back, and an insulated coffee mug came from behind her as lips softly brushed the back of her shoulder. Standing on the edge of the dock, Kai allowed herself a ghost of a smile. Waters came around the side of her and squatted to stare down past the water's surface. "Good morning."
"Morning," he whispered with a glance in her direction. "Everybody good?"
Nodding, she sipped her Crankiness Bomb. "The stunt coordinator arrived and has all the guys demonstrating what you've taught them, so I thought I'd come down and supervise Vixen and Enigma."
"How are the two lovebirds?"
"Tired. Happy. They should be up soon. I made them promise to do ten-minute check-ins because of Vixen's ankle."
"Mmm. And what about you? Are you tired? And happy?"
"I slept well. I could be happier," she grouched.
"Salty today, are we?" Waters teased.
She winked at him.
He stood up next to her, his hands reaching around her waist to tag her hip and pull her close. "Patience," he murmured with his warm breath in her ear.
"Remember how we discussed my patience problems?"
"I remember working on those patience problems last night. Sounds like someone needs a reminder."
She gave him a hip check. "I'll give you a reminder later as to why you never make a woman wait for anything."
"Will it be a tongue-lashing?" he asked.
"Hmph." She cast a sideways look out of the corner of her eye. "Heard you were on a road trip."
"Mm-hmm."
"And was said mission successful?" she asked as she sipped her drink without looking at him.
"Mm-hmm."
Thank God!
She turned to look at him.
He was trying not to laugh.
"I said that out loud, didn't I?"
"Yes. Yes, you did." He grabbed her free hand. "You're not alone. Feels a bit like the afternoon of Christmas Eve." He kissed her cheek and pulled back about five seconds before Vixen breached the surface, followed shortly after that by Enigma.
