34. Rebel
"Who the fuckis threatening my brother? Did you find out if he's where he's supposed to be?" Rebel asked.
"Rebel, I talked to Steel, and he said everything is fine. I don't know who is sending those emails from the dark web, saying Reaper is as good as dead. How did you even find them?" Viper asked.
"Marcus said a friend from the FBI called him and said some strange things were happening on the dark web. When they saw that email about the Delta Force, they were looking for a girl who has been missing for nine months."
"So, while the FBI is busy hunting for a missing girl, they came across that email. That's strange. Who is the missing girl?"
"I don't know. I'll call Marcus after we hang up. Thanks, Viper."
"Call me when you get a name, and we'll see how we can help."
"You got it," I said, hanging up. I called Marcus. "Hey, do you happen to have the missing girl's name?"
"I wondered if you were going to call back. What's happened with Reaper?"
"I don't know what's happening, but I'll find out. He's on a job where he's supposed to be. What's her name?"
"The missing girl is twenty-three. Her name is Kylie McDonald, and she stopped at the grocery store to pick up her sister's birthday cake on the way home from work. They found her car. They found her purse and her phone beside her car. I'll send you some photos of her and her family, plus what little info there is. I did some digging, and she has a sister who has the local police ready to strangle her. She tells anyone who listens to her that the police don't know their job. She has been doing her own investigating, and they are angry because she's getting herself into some business that could get her hurt."
"Why are you sending me the info? I don't have time to investigate anyone right now. I'm supposed to be in New York, guarding that singer. I don't look forward to safeguarding people who think they are Gods because everyone goes crazy when they see them."
"This might be a sign from above: they live in New York, so maybe you can swing by and talk to them."
"Just because we met Todd Tulle's spirit doesn't mean everything happens that way. That still gives me the creeps. It has me looking into corners everywhere. Send me their address, and I'll see what I can do. Viper might not like me taking extra time. You know how he doesn't like leaving Bailey and those little ones."
"We were taking the company plane so we didn't have to wait at the airport for hours. Once we were flying, I glanced at Viper as he flew the plane. I have a freebie job when we finish this one. There is a missing girl…" I never got to finish because he interrupted.
"I know all about Kylie and her sister, Avie McDonald. Bailey told me to help her desperate sister who has been looking for her everywhere. She's been missing for nine months. What makes you think we can find her?"
"I don't know whether we can or not. I had to agree because Marcus wouldn't stop talking about the sister Evie; the local police are angry with her because she's getting mixed up in some things she should stay out of," I explained.
"I can imagine what she's getting mixed up in. If she's not careful, the cartel will also take her," Viper said.
"Did I tell you about the email on the dark web? It says Reaper is as good as dead," I told Viper, getting angry again. "Who the hell would send something like that?"
"I heard about that. I've been thinking there might be another guy out there they call Reaper. And most likely, he's in the cartel. Probably someone high up," Viper said, glancing at me.
"I never thought about that. Imagine if there are two Reapers. If there is, he must also have something to do with dead bodies. Knox got his name because he was always making sure the dead soldiers were brought out of the war zone so they could be sent home to their families," I said, frowning. "So, how did the other guy get his name?"
"We'll know soon enough. Marcus and his FBI buddies are checking into it," Viper said.
