Epilogue

I LOVED THE holiday. There were lights and lots of people who slipped me treats while they ate. Papa Riley even gave me some of the turkey, and it was yummy. Princess, Buster, and me all played out back for a long time with Lilly and a bunch of new toys that squeaked. I love squeaky things. We chased each other all over the yard. Now I'm tired, and it's time to be warm and rest, and the rug in front of the fire is perfect.

Papa Riley is sitting on the sofa, next to Buster's papa Wayne. I want to go over to them, but they are happy, and the rug is nice and warm. Besides, they are holding paws and keep giving each other people kisses, and while those are nice, I like dog kisses better.

The rest of the people are talking and stuff, but I think I'm going to stay right here for now. It's comfy, and there are good smells, and the house is filled with lots of love. I know what that smells like, and it's even better than dog treats—but not bacon, because nothing is better than bacon. I think the people are getting ready to eat again, but I'm really full and happy.

I really like Papa Riley. He takes good care of me and he doesn't yell at me or say that I'm bad. He gives me a nice place to sleep, and he even brought me my doggie friend Buster. Last night Papa Riley said that maybe my friend Buster and his people friend Wayne could eventually make a family. I don't know how that kind of stuff works. Maybe they need to fill out a form like they did at the shelter. When Papa Riley brought me home, he filled out forms. They called them 'doption or something. Maybe Papa Riley and Wayne need to fill out a family form.

They're people kissing again and looking at each other with big eyes like they just saw a really juicy bone. They are happy, and me and Buster are happy. I hope they fill out that form soon, because I want all of us to be a family. What Papa Riley doesn't know yet is that we already are. I know it in my doggie heart, and dogs know that kind of stuff. Now the people just need to figure it out.
