Epilogue

The kid was the coolest part of this whole Crew.

Wreck canted his head, watching the boy—Ruger—go from shifter to shifter, chattering happily. The boy was confident, with nary an ounce of shyness in his body.

Wreck's lips were doing something strange, curving upward.

He forced his smile to stop.

He'd heard the boy collected cards. Wreck didn't know why, but he'd brought his limited-edition, extremely rare personal card for Sloane's shifter-initiation party.

He'd even signed it.

Wreck looked down at it. The collector card just had a picture of fire, and simply said Wreck Itall in a foil font that turned the color of flames if he turned the card slightly in the sunlight.

It didn't have his height or weight or information about his shifter animal like the others did, but Damon had been the one to sanction this one being made. There was one in the entire world, and it was in his hand.

Wreck should leave.

This was stupid.

"He's a cute kid," Lucia murmured.

He'd sensed her there, so Wreck wasn't startled that the seer was standing right behind him.

"Why don't you show up in your visions?" he asked.

Lucia Novak didn't answer him.

"If you know what will happen to this Crew, why don't you show up in time and stop it?" he asked, turning slightly so he could see her out of his peripheral vision.

"Because I'm with child. I can't Change. I can't protect anyone."

Wreck waited a couple of seconds and then returned his attention to the boy—Ruger.

"If he lives, he will grow up to be a monster," she said.

"That's a shame," he said softly.

"Not really. If he survives the Holland War, he will be an Alpha."

Gooseflesh rippled across his forearms. The young boy was laughing with Haydan Walker, Gunner and Captain's dad.

"What will his animal be?" Wreck asked.

"Oh, someone with a Turn left will give him an animal," she said. "Someone from the Fastlanders."

"Corey has a bear left to give. His mother will have a lion. Captain has a bear."

"Mmm." Lucia's nonchalant answer made him turn his head again to see her face.

"You have a Turn left to give too," she said softly.

Ha. Wreck would never bestow this curse on anyone. Not ever.

Lucia dragged her gaze from Ruger, and her bright-green eyes bored right into Wreck. "Who knows. Perhaps he will be the next Fastlander Phoenix."

Oh, she knew what he was.

Wreck fought the urge to drag lightning down from the sky and roast her for saying the word. He clenched his jaw and dragged his attention back to the boy, then ripped up the card he'd signed and let the confetti pieces fall from his fingertips to the ground. Then he shot a fireball at it and lit the pile on fire.

"Get fucked, Lucia," he gritted out as he walked back into the woods.

"I already did. That's why I'm with child," she called after him.

Wreck lifted a middle finger at her, and then disappeared into the trees.

He would die before he ever Turned anyone into this.
