Kingship in Ireland:

rimeans "king" (plural is rig) and the second word below refers to the number of people and the amount of land that each ri is king of:

ri túaithe– The king of a túath (small territory)

ri túath– The overking of several túatha (several small territories)

ri rúirech– The king of a rúirech (lordship, a huge territory)

ri cóiced– The king of a cóiced (province)

árd rí– The high king

Definitions:

a ghráidh– sweetling

enach– honour price

grádh– darling

lough– lake

mamaídh– mama

mo mhíle stór– my love

mo chroí go deo thú– my heart to you forever

ráth– stone circle, ring fort

tánaiste– selected as successor at the king's inauguration

Diarmuid – Deer-mid
