Chapter 10
CHAPTER 10
CORVIN
L eaving Everett alone in my old bed was the last thing I wanted to do, but I never got a restful night's sleep if I didn't retreat to my coffin in the basement. Even after a century of dealing with my affliction, nothing beat the absolute comfort of the tight, confined space, completely devoid of light. It was my peace, my tranquility.
I did, however, stay with him until the faintest light of morning began creeping in through the curtains. I listened to him breathe, watched him as he slept, wondering what he might be dreaming about. It seemed silly to hope, but I wanted to find my way into his subconscious.
I wanted to be the only thing he saw from the moment he woke up to the time he fell asleep, and even then, I wanted to haunt his dreams.
In all my years, even when I'd fallen hopelessly in lust with the man who ruined my life, it had never felt anything like this.
This was different, and it was terrifying.
When I stepped into the room, Everett's heart rate spiked and his eyes blew wide. For a moment, neither of us said anything, and I couldn't help but notice my bite marks on his neck. I liked the way he looked with my mark, which wasn't something I'd enjoyed before, but he wore them so well.
He belonged to me.
He was mine.
"Corvin…" My name on his lips made my knees weak, and I strolled farther into the room.
I was surprised he hadn't tried to run again. I'd been asleep, unable to pursue him, and yet… he stayed. Whereas the last mortal I fell for killed himself to get away from me, this one lingered.
"You didn't try to run again," I mused as I stopped in front of him. My eyes fell farther down his form, admiring the way he looked in my clothes. What I wouldn't give to see him dressed in a suit with a fitted vest, like he came from my time period and not this modern world.
"Would it have made a difference?" he cocked an eyebrow at me.
"No." I shook my head firmly. "I'll drag you back here as many times as it takes to keep you here forever."
"Last time was kind of hot." A cocky smirk lit up his face. "I wouldn't mind doing it again."
His response took me aback. I wasn't expecting his enthusiasm over running for his life again, but I couldn't complain. If he wanted to be my prey, I would be the feral predator that hunted him down in the dead of night and fucked him until he cried out my name.
I would be whatever he wanted me to be.
"That can be arranged," I said, stepping closer. I stopped inches from him, staring down into his vibrant eyes, every inch of me begging me to close the distance. Ever Briggs was a drug, one my ancient bones had never tasted before, and I wouldn't be content until I had more of him.
I wondered how he'd look on his knees before me, worshiping my cock like the good little servant he was.
Thankfully, I had plenty of time to find out.
"What now, My Lord? " Ever grabbed the front of my shirt and dragged me against him. I gasped instinctively, even though I hadn't had a need to breathe in over a hundred years.
"Whatever you want," I said, trailing a finger along his stubble-covered jaw. "You can go anywhere in the mansion, do anything you want."
"And if I want to go home?" he asked, standing on his tiptoes to be eye-level with me. "If I want to leave for a while and come back? If I want to take you with me?"
My jaw fell slack. It had been so long since I've ventured outside the safety of the woods, since I'd left the protection of my home.
Could I? Would I?
I didn't know, but I wasn't entirely opposed.
If my new pet wanted something from me, I would do my best to provide it.
"Perhaps," I said, dipping to press my mouth against his. The warmth of his lips against mine melted through me, consuming my being, and I painted a lick across the seam of his mouth. "If I expect you to serve me, it's only fair that I make it worth your while."
He grinned against my lips and closed his eyes, kissing me again, making me forget the sarcastic remark on the tip of my tongue.
My stomach fluttered, a feeling I hadn't felt in at least a century, and I smirked. Who knew it would take being dead for over a hundred years to finally feel this alive?
