Chapter 43

Emilia

My grandmother was an expert liar. She had the slimy bastard practically eating out of her hand. I poured the amanitin into his glass. Cyrus had ensured that none of the cameras were able to save any recordings, but I'd switched the carpark and the ballroom cameras off completely.

"Yes, your father often golfed with me," my grandfather added. "They don't have men like him anymore."

I almost gagged because his father had been another corrupt politician.

"I'm sorry, Senator, please excuse me. I believe my husband is trying to get my attention," I said as I glanced at Cyrus's furious expression.

"Of course. I'm happy to speak to your grandparents, but I must speak to your husband shortly. He is causing waves by breaking into the biomedical field," he said as he took my hand.

He rubbed his fingers along my palm.

"And I would love to spend some time with the new Mrs Wicke," he said as he tightened his hand around mine. "I can see why he kept you a secret."

His eyes dropped to my breasts, and I smiled at him before I pulled my hand away from his. He would be dead in the next seventy-two hours, but not before I had the opportunity to make him suffer some more. Cyrus would need to get in line for this one.

As soon as I got close to our table Cyrus stood up and led me out of the ballroom into the quieter foyer.

"How did you know?" he gritted out as he held my wrist.

"I cracked your laptop once before," I said with a shrug. "And after a good fucking you sleep like the dead."

He sighed before he put his forehead on mine.

"I didn't want any of this taint to touch you," he whispered as he touched my stomach.

"I vowed to love every part of you, Cyrus, and I do," I said as I embraced him. "It's our life, and I can handle it. I only brought my family into the fold because together, we can get this network dismantled within days rather than weeks."

He groaned and held me against him.

"I fucking hate your Dad," he moaned. "Even his shitty accent grates on me, but yours is cute. I cannot comprehend how you came out of that man's balls."

I began to laugh at his dismay.

"Yeah, most people hate him," I said to him with a grin. "I'm leaving with my Mum and Grandparents. Moorcroft has been poisoned, and you and my Dad are bringing him home. The carpark camera has been fully disabled."

A kaleidoscope of various emotions flitted across his face before only resignation remained.

"Once this is over, I am going to beat your ass black and blue," he said firmly.

"Okay, baby, I love you," I said as I kissed him.

Cyrus had everything in his life. He didn't need to take out animals like Moorcroft, but I knew why he did. He had to understand that I would stand by his side no matter what.

"That was a lovely party," my Grandfather said before he kissed my cheek. "See you tomorrow, Angel."

I hugged and kissed them all before they left. Apparently, my Dad would rather eat blades than stay under the same roof as Cyrus. Knowing what I did after being married to Cyrus, he probably wanted privacy to be with my Mum. I almost peed myself when Cyrus asked why he called my Mum ‘Pet.' Perhaps I would tell him one day since my Dad was so hard on him.

I glanced at the time before I rushed upstairs to get out of my dress. They were en route with Moorcroft, and I wanted to be with Cyrus when he worked on him. I chose a simple black top with black jeans because I didn't want blood stains on my clothes.

When I heard the car in the garage, I went downstairs to witness my Dad and Cyrus bickering as they dragged the bound and gagged Senator towards our kitchen.

"You will need extra sheets. He might puke and shit while the poison works through him. Luckily, you have plumbing downstairs," I said to Cyrus.

"That's just plain nasty, Angel," Cyrus said with a grimace.

"He needs to feel agony in every cell of his body before he dies," I said coldly while staring at the Senator.

His eyes grew wide, and he began to mumble something behind the gag.

"That's my girl," my Dad said with a grin.

"She is my wife," Cyrus piped up.

Before they began to argue again, I walked towards the desperate Senator and removed his gag. He had bruising around his eyes and had a fat lip.

"Please don't kill me. I will tell you everything," he said, looking around at us wildly. "I will tell you where the girl is if you let me go."

I glanced at Cyrus as I realised what he meant. My Dad began to pummel him with a series of punches, and when he began to fall, Cyrus held him up by his neck so my Dad could continue.

"Stop, please. She is at my house. I have an outhouse. She's in there," he gasped out.

Cyrus grabbed his hair and began to drag him towards the staircase. I'd already opened the trapdoor for him so he flung the Senator down the wooden stairs before he closed the door and locked it.

"Angel, check the security in his house. We will go find the girl. You stay here to call us and let us know of any issues," Cyrus said.

When I opened my mouth to speak, he shut me down.

"This is not a fucking negotiation. I will not risk anything happening to you or our child. For all we know, it's a trap," he snapped at me.

I glanced at my Dad for support. He shrugged his shoulders.

"I would do the same with your mother."

I think I preferred it when they hated each other.
