Epilogue.
ONE MONTH LATER.
My passport was safe inside my backpack, along with Pascale's and I was positively brimming with excitement and my fair share of fatigue. We'd been travelling for two incredible weeks, and like most good things, our time was coming to an end. We'd seen some incredible sights and immersed ourselves in other cultures. It was every bit as fulfilling and wonderful as I'd ever hoped it would be. And the best part was that we were able to enjoy it together! I'd literally got to have my cake and eat it too.
I took a deep breath of fresh air and stared out at the wonder before me. The Grand Canyon in the flesh stretched out as far as the eye could see. "This is amazing."
Beside me, Pascale slid his arm around my waist, pulling me in possessively. "It really is, you're so right. This was definitely worth the extra trip."
A wave of sadness washed over me. "I can't believe we're going home tomorrow. Thank you so much for coming with me on this adventure, Pascale. It's like a dream come true. I never could have imagined in a million years that my life would turn out like this. It's just perfect."
Pascale kissed me on the lips, then smiled. "Of course. It's been my pleasure. Besides, you know I can't sleep without your beautiful body by my side."
I grinned up at him, my heart swelling as love flowed over me for this incredible, magical man.
I really am the luckiest woman in the world.
Then all of a sudden, he dropped to one knee beside me, knocking the breath right out of me.
"Oh, my God. Pascale, what are you doing?" I asked, glancing around at the few tourists in the nearby area.
He pulled a black velvet box from his pocket, then popped it open to reveal the beauty within. "I'm asking you to marry me, Abigail."
My jaw dropped and tears filled my eyes as my hands strayed to my face in shock. "Really?" I gasped, my lower lip trembling with emotion.
He grinned up at me. "I figured that we should honor some human traditions as well some not so human ones."
I stared down at the most beautiful ring I'd ever laid eyes on. There was a large pink diamond in the center, surrounded by deep red rubies, giving it the appearance of a spring-time blossom. "Oh, God. I can't believe it. It's so beautiful, Pascale. You shouldn't have."
He'd been so worried about not being able to travel, about finances and rules. But we'd found out soon enough that the Easter Bunny had a bank account with a ridiculous amount of money, and his colony was more than happy to hold down the fort for a few weeks while we explored the wider world together.
"I love you Abby, so very much, so I have to ask... will you be my wife?"
I nodded, hot tears spilling over my flushed cheeks. "Of course I will!"
Pascale took the ring from the box and slid it onto my left ring finger. Then he stood up, his dark eyes boring into my soul.
I squealed in unbridled joy as he picked me up and spun me around just like the handsome heroes in movies did. "I love you," I said. "I love you so much." I'd initially been so fearful of what life with Pascale would mean for me. Living under the ground. Rules and restrictions. No sex with a shifter anatomy that I didn't understand. But ever since Easter Sunday, everything had been amazing. It had just all fallen into place, like the final missing pieces needed to complete the jigsaw of our lives.
I learned new things about Pascale and his incredible extended family every day and I thanked the universe daily for making me the Easter Bunny's fated mate.
My life had truly never been better nor filled with more joy than since the day I first met Pascale. And we were living proof that fairy tales existed... We would live our own enchanted lives, somewhere snuggly between the normal and paranormal—straddling that decidedly furry and fuzzy line!
And can you believe it? I'm going to be Mrs. Easter Bunny!
Amery was right after all. Turns out you really can't take the cupid out of the angel!
The End.
