Splitting the team

DREW

Parker disappeared the same day Gabriella did. Neither Jamie nor I have heard from him in two whole days. We’ve never gone that long without a word from him and I’m starting to worry that Melody might have gotten her claws into him for good this time.

The three of us, Jamie, Parker and I, have been friends for our entire lives, born within days of each other, and growing up literally next door to each other. We developed our powers at the same time, we had our first crushes within days of each other. Everything major in our lives happened as a team. We’d do anything for each other but now, with Parker missing, the new girl Gabriella missing, Melody vanishing and the rumour of a murder on academy grounds, I’m starting to freak out.

I’ve been stumbling through my classes, my mind a complete wreck with worry. My second class of the day is Elemental history and as I’m walking through the door of the classroom, my heart stops. Gabriella and Parker are sitting in the back row, their heads together whispering to each other.

Jealousy like I’ve never felt before stabs through me.

That asshole! He must have kidnapped her for a few days.

I almost wish I’d thought of that. Maybe she’d be looking at me as though the world answered to me if I had. Right now, she’s leaning in so close to Parker, if I couldn’t see his smirking lips, it’d look like they were kissing. My vision narrows down to a single point: his smug face. All I want to do is punch that look right off him. I can’t though. We made a pact, no matter how we feel, that pact will never be broken.

We don’t fight over girls. No one comes between us.

Fuck I want to punch him so badly I’m shaking. Without a word, I turn on my heel and storm out of the classroom. My brother, who had been walking in behind me, follows in my footsteps, a similar look to what I’m sure is on my face on his.

“We’re fucked.” I grumble as we make our way to the library. It’s the only place we go without Parker. He loves his reputation far too much to step foot into a library.

My hands ball up at my sides as I struggle to get my emotions under control. All I want to do right now is beat the ever loving fuck out of him and steal Gabriella out from under his nose.

“Think he actually fucked her?”

“Don’t. I can’t….” I don’t need to finish my thoughts out loud; Jamie knows how I feel as well as I know how he does. We’re jealous. We’re angry. We’re scared. Out of all the girls we’ve messed around with, Gabriella is the first that we’ve ever worried about coming between us. She’s beautiful, tough, mouthy and smart, but the worst part is the waves of power she releases without even trying is enough to scare us all. She has the power to destroy us. To split our bond without even trying. Hell with how powerful she is she could probably take over the world and not break a sweat. She’d easily tear us apart if we let her.

“She needs to go.” I grumble as we slump down onto the couch at the back of the library.

“I disagree.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah, she’s beautiful, smart, powerful, imagine what we could do if she were one of us. We’d have no problem finding you know what with her on our side.”

“Can we trust her though?” I purse my lips, wondering if he’s right. We’ve had no luck on our own, but if we were to combine our powers with hers… “Okay, I’ll give her a chance, but if she turns out to be a snake, I’m reserving the right to punch you in the mouth.”

“Deal.” He smiles at me and I lift my fist, threatening him but his smile just grows.

“Asshole!”
