Chapter 13

Lacy

Drake called to let me know that he was on his way home, but he sounded different. I wanted to believe he was just tired, but something deep down inside my heart and soul told me that something had happened on his trip. A million possibilities swam through my head, but I couldn’t let them irritate me.

I began cleaning the apartment and making sure that everything looked perfect. I put on a BBQ pork roast and baked a fresh apple pie. Those were Drake’s favorites. I definitely wasn’t Suzie Homemaker, but I did enjoy making my man happy and food was definitely one of those things that made him happy.

But, I knew what would really drive him wild was what I had picked up after my lunch with Ivy. On my drive home, I had passed a small lingerie store. Drake wasn’t really into me dressing up in the bedroom, he said he preferred my naked body over anything else, but he did like when I added a little see-through robe. Just as a fun tease.

So, as the food warmed in the oven, I put on the black, lace robe that was completely see-through. I pulled my hair up in a tight bun, just like Drake liked it.

I stationed myself perched on the couch, so that I would be the first thing Drake saw when he walked into the house.

As I stood there waiting, I felt my heart dance as the familiar sounds of his engine pulling into the parking lot filled my ears. I heard hundreds of bikes pull in every day, but I had memorized the sounds of Drakes.

I waited breathlessly for him to walk through the door. Just as the doorknob turned, I stood and put my hands on my hips, jutting out my breasts.

As Drake walked in, the first thing I noticed was the tired and tense look on his face.

He fakes a smile for me and my heart shattered into a million pieces.

“Hey Lacy, damn you look hot,” he says, dropping his backpack onto the floor and reaching out to me.

Usually, I would have rushed to him instantly, but something is different right now. When I don’t move forward, Drake stops and looks at me carefully. “What’s wrong?” he asks, glancing around the room.

“You tell me,” I retort.

Drake gives me a strange look, like he has no idea why I would be asking this. “What are you talking about?”

“Drake, you look upset, or scared. I don’t really know. But, I know you, and something is wrong,” I say gently, as I finally take a step toward him.

Drake’s shoulders sag and a look of defeat washes over his chiseled face. The look makes tears form in my eyes and I can’t hold back any longer. I throw my arms around his neck and pull him into me for a hug. He has to know that I am here for him. Always will be.

“Lacy, I wish I could tell you…” he begins, but his words trail off as he places his lips against my collarbone.

I hold him back at arm's length and force him to look me in the eye. “Drake, as long as you didn’t cheat on me, you can tell me anything,” I say, offering a soft smile.

Drake stares deep into my eyes and I feel like he is searching into my soul. “Lacy, I could never cheat on you. There is no other woman that even compares to you. Never will be either. I know I have been off lately, and there is something wrong right now, but don’t you ever think for even a second, that someone could come between what we have. You are my entire life and the reason I…” he stops himself before he can finish his sentence.

I can’t stop myself; I love this man more than anything in this world and if he is hurting, then I am hurting. Besides, he just cleared up any fear I could ever have about him cheating on me. While it wasn’t a true thought or fear in my mind, it felt good knowing it wasn’t on his mind.

“Drake, I love you, too. More than you could possibly know. If this is going to last, we have to be strong together and for one another. Whatever it is, we can get through it,” I say.

Drake pulls me in and kisses me with so much passion, my knees go weak and I become putty in his hands.

When he finally pulls back, he holds me close. “I need to show you something,” he says.

“Ok,” I say, nodding. I have no idea where this is going, but I have to put my faith that Drake will explain it to me.

“We need to drive where it is,” he adds, looking me up and down.

Suddenly, I am very aware that I am standing here naked in front of him, and I have dinner in the oven. “Drake, do we really need to go right now? I made you dinner and a dessert. Plus, I am naked,” I say.

“Lacy, if I am going to tell you what is wrong, I have to show you something first. I need you to trust me,” he pleads.

At that moment, I forget about my plans for the night. If this is what he needs, then I will do it.

“Ok, let me get dressed and turn off the oven.”

I rush around the apartment turning off the oven and blowing out the candles I had also lit to spice up the mood. I run to our bedroom where I pull on a pair of black leggings and an oversized sweatshirt. When I return, I notice that Drake still hasn’t moved from his spot. He takes my hand and leads me to the front door. As we exit, I take a deep breath and prepare for whatever it is that Drake needs to show me.
