Chapter 11

Lacy

N a?ve

Drake left Tuesday morning and I am dying.

I have never been the type of girl to need a man. I have always been strongly independent and been able to take care of myself. But with Drake in my life, I feel like a piece of my soul is missing when he is away. I physically hurt, as I need and want him desperately.

With both our guys gone, Ivy and I decided to meet up for lunch. Sitting at a cafe table, I waved her over once I spotted her pulling into the parking lot. We had plans to meet up with Remy the next day. Blaze was going to meet up with Drake and Axel, so she wanted to spend their last night together.

Waving back, Ivy made her way over to my table. “Hey, long time no see,” she said, as she slid into the seat opposite me.

“I know. I feel like we have both been so busy lately. I miss seeing you every day,” I fake pouted.

Ivy laughed. “I know. Now that we don’t live together anymore, it takes our guys leaving town for us to find some time to have some girl time,” she said.

I nodded as I took a sip of my lemonade. The waitress walked over and Ivy ordered a lemonade as well, and then we both ordered grilled chicken salads.

It was a sunny, Thursday afternoon and Drake and the guys were all scheduled to return hopefully by Friday. Drake had called and texted as much as he could, but I understood that he was busy riding and working. I just enjoyed the time we did find to talk. Even if that included some naughty moments that included FaceTime.

“So, what’s been going on?” I ask.

Ivy raised her brows and gave me a smile. It was crazy how much she had changed over the last year. Being with Axel really brought her out of her shell.

“Just working and spending time with Axel. Wow, it sounds really lame when I say it aloud, but I am so happy,” she said, her eyes lighting up when she mentioned Axel’s name.

I completely understood how she felt. Before meeting Drake, I would have died if my life only consisted of school, work, and sitting around the apartment. But now, I have a different type of happy. Being with Drake just completes me in a way I had never thought possible.

“I totally get it. I feel the same way about Drake,” I smile. “Work has kept me busy too. I just got promoted to manager and we are even talking about having me show my designs to the owner.” I work for a small boutique store that recently opened up. I had been working at a larger-scale clothing store in the mall, but the boutique was adorable and just called to me. They sold original designs from the owner and I really admire what she had created here.

“That’s fantastic!” Ivy exclaimed. “I have started researching wedding venues and looking at possible dresses,” she gushes.

“Wow, look at us all grown up and talking about real-life things,” I joke. But seriously, I am so proud of both of us. We have both come a long way from the two naive college freshman girls we once were.

“So… do you think you guys will get engaged soon?” Ivy asks. She is so obsessed with me and Drake getting married just like her and Axel plan to.

Sighing, I run my hands through my hair. “I hope so. It is so hard to tell with Drake sometimes. I mean, I know he loves me and he has mentioned a future with me before, but we don’t really talk about engagement or marriage,” I said.

It stung to say all of this aloud, even to my very best friend. I could feel tears burning my eyes, but I fought back the emotion.

“Can I tell you a little secret?” Ivy asked, as she leaned over the table and whispered to me.

I glanced around, not sure why she was whispering, but played along anyway. “What?” I asked.

“Axel told me the other night that Drake had been acting weird. More secretive than usual. We all know he isn’t Mr. Social, but he has been talking about needing more money to buy something big,” she said, adding a sly wink at the end.

I sat back in my seat and crossed my arms across my chest. “What the hell are you talking about?” I laughed. “Drake is always secretive. He doesn’t like to talk to very many people outside of the club.”

However, the idea of him needing more money seemed to bother me too.

“Sure, but don’t you want to know what he would need more money for? Come on, Lacy. The Raven’s Bar brings in good money, we all know that. So, that means he would want a little extra money to buy something special. Like...maybe a ring?” she asks.

My heart did a little happy dance in my chest at even the possibility of Drake considering buying a ring. Could it be true? I didn’t want to jinx myself, but it wasn’t a very farfetched idea either.

“I don’t know, Ivy. I mean, I would love if that happened, but I don’t want to get my hopes up and then it not happen,” I say.

“Lacy, you know he will ask you to marry him sometime soon. We have two guys crazy about us,” she smiles.

“When did you become the positive one?” I tease, as I smack at her hand.

Ivy just laughs and then the waitress brings our lunches over. We finish talking and gossiping while we eat. When we leave, we say our goodbyes and promise to do this once a week. On my drive back to my apartment, I can’t get my conversation with Ivy out of my head. Could Drake be thinking about buying me a ring? I guess only time will tell.
