40. Epilogue

The power surge flowed through King Gemar, bringing him to his knees. Searing pain coursed through him as he felt his body shake. Before long, he held himself up on his hands and knees, roaring in his dragon’s tone as he rode out the waves of pain. The magic that held the barrier around the island where they sent their rejected had been blown apart by a power he had never felt before. Each person inside of his kingdom, Gemar knew what their power felt like and what level of magic they could perform along with their dragon. No one could rip apart the barrier and bring him to his knees.

As he held himself up on the floor, a layer of frigid sweat broke out across his skin. A burning sensation followed by chills coursed through him, making all of his hair stand on end. His own dragon was pushing to shift so they could fly out there and assess the damage that had been done. It was no use. Gemar knew the damage already. The barrier was down.

The Plasma Dragon is behind this.

The rumor that a Plasma had emerged had to be true. No other dragon could perform a blast of magic that could tear apart the work of the ancestors’ barrier. Gemar read that a Plasma was the natural leader of dragons and could create magic that could match another species. If one was walking amongst them, Gemar needed to do whatever it took to bring them down.

His room was built to contain a dragon, even when it had lost control. It was soundproof, and every kind of magic proof, from his understanding. He was grateful that he was inside it as he continued to roar through the pain the magic caused. Gemar did not want his mate or anyone else to know that the barrier was gone. For now, this needed to be a secret so he could think of how to spin this to his advantage so the people would want the Plasma dragon to be destroyed. As he rode out the last of the waves, Gemar collapsed onto the cold, hard ground. The coldness felt good on his scorching skin.

We cannot allow the Plasma Dragon to come here. The people will bow to her immediately.

Yes, I know. The only good thing is that the Plasma is Enzo’s mate. If we cannot destroy her, then we could keep her under his corrupting influence.

Do you think the boy will want to accept our gift as we hand over the throne to him to keep her under his control?

Of course. We will convince him that it would be for the best. Plasma may be stronger, but it is also a threat to the future of our reign. Strength and power are a threat, but they can be an asset to our reign under the right conditions.

A Plasma will have multiple mates. She is with the Elementals. She could find the ones that were to be at her side. They will be a problem.

Elementals are less than us. We can cleanse them if need be. Then, she will only be able to breed with my son, and the future of Storm Dragons will remain the same.

If you have this trust in Enzo, then I will as well. If you believe he will follow orders, then we have nothing to fear.

Enzo has always listened to me. He has never had the choice to do anything else. We will continue with our plans. Not even the Plasma can stop us; she’s instrumental in our plan.
