31. Enzo

Enzo roared again as he watched Kaida fly off without him. He took a step forward to run after her, but the one Kaida called Beckett put his hand on Enzo’s chest. Enzo smacked it away and growled. Beckett seemed unfazed and annoyed at the same time. It was not a normal thing for anyone to brush off Enzo so easily.

"Back off, asshole. I need to go after her."

"No, you need to learn how to respect her. She is not some object you can possess. As a fellow dragon, I understand wanting to horde a precious jewel like a fated mate. However, she is more than that. So, stop it now before I end it."

Enzo growled and straightened his back. He was not keen on having someone speak to him in this way. The only one who ever got away with it was his father, and that was because he was a king and his father. He had a right to be that way toward Enzo.

"Who do you think you are to tell your prince to do anything?" Enzo snarled.

Beckett chuckled. "Your title means shit to me right now. Kaida is my mate, and I refuse to allow anyone to cause her harm. That’s even a fellow mate. I don’t know what your problem is right now, but you need to chill out. I can help with that if you need it."

Enzo growled at the threat, "Oh yeah? How do you think you are going to do that?"

"I’ll freeze your ass into a popsicle. Don’t fucking try me."

Enzo heard the others chuckle, and he looked over at them. The other three stood behind Beckett and had the stance of fighters loosening themselves up before a fight. Their postures were relaxed, but their hands opened and closed, readying themselves to fling their magic the moment they needed it. Enzo wasn’t stupid. He could feel their power accumulate as they stared him down. It surprised Enzo to feel that kind of power coming from Elementals. He was always told that they were weak. Even the strongest of the Elementals were weak. Yet, these four nearly matched his power.

"How am I supposed to calm down when my mate has flown off, and I am being told that I am not her only mate?"

Beckett shrugged. "Simple. Accept the fact that she is special. There’s no chance in hell that we will allow you to keep her all to yourself in Dragaal. Kaida isn’t going to let you either. If you even think she will let that fly, you have another thing coming. Her dragon is not one to be messed with."

Seeing the other three nodding their heads to that statement made Enzo wonder how involved they were with Kaida. He only noticed one mark on her. If these three were also her mates, why had they not marked her too?

"I see she is only marked by one of you. I assume it’s you," Enzo pointed at Beckett.

"Yes, I am the only one who has marked her for now."

"We only recently figured out that she is also our mate. The bond was there when we first met, but it didn’t really show up fully until her dragon emerged. It wasn’t that long ago when that happened," the one called Arlo added.

"So, her dragon emerged, and that’s how you all discovered you were her mates?"

Beckett shook his head. "No. I felt mine open to her first. I think it was because I was the first one to notice her after she landed here. At least, that is the only thing I can think of as to why. After her dragon emerged, the other three started to feel the tug to her."

"Wrong. I don’t feel it," Blaze jumped in.

Enzo noticed that this one seemed bored and didn’t want to be there. Enzo lifted an eyebrow at him and then looked at the others.

"Don’t ask. He seems to think he can ignore this, and it will all disappear." Beckett waved off Blaze while shaking his head. "But the other two only recently started to pursue her. After our training sessions with her... she doesn’t trust them very much and is taking it slow."

Something about that statement had Enzo clenching his jaw. She is taking it slow with the other two... did she not take it slow with Beckett?

"And you did not take it slow?" Enzo questioned Beckett.

Beckett grinned, "No. I saw my fated mate in front of me. There wasn’t a damn chance I’d let her slip through my fingers."

Enzo stifled another growl. He took a deep breath before continuing so he could calm down his heartbeat. If he didn’t get himself under control, his dragon would take over.

"So, you all are willing to be her mates?"

"Yes," three of them said in unison. The other continued looking around, still acting as if he didn’t want to be there.

"How will that work?"

"How the hell should we know? This is our first time in a situation like this. I’m hoping we all can get along and figure this out, but we are all dragons. I see one or most of us butting heads at some point," Arlo pointed out.

"I agree with that. We only found out a few days ago that this was possible. We all felt the pull to her but just thought we caught feelings and would have to squash them because Beckett got to her first," Esen followed up.

"This seems a little chaotic, but I guess we will figure it out." Enzo was exasperated and rubbed his face with his hands. "Do you know where she could have gone?"

The three of them looked at each other as Blaze walked into the house behind them. Enzo frowned, knowing that Blaze was a possible mate for Kaida. At least the other three were willing to work together to figure things out and protect Kaida. That guy? It looked like he would be happier if Kaida were dead.

"She could be with her friends. They would kill us all in the blink of an eye for Kaida, especially if we did something to upset her, which means we’re probably screwed."

Enzo lifted his eyebrows at Beckett. "Who are these friends?"

The three of them chuckled and made faces as if they didn’t want to warn Enzo about them. Kaida had seemed more like a loner when Enzo met her, so hearing that she had these friends who were hardcore protective of her was a surprise.

"I think we should let Enzo know what he will be walking into."

"I don’t know. Maybe he needs Remy to punch him in the face. We all know she’s going to be the first to lunge." Esen’s smile as he spoke stirred Enzo’s dragon. The other two laughed and agreed with his statement, which did not help Enzo feel better.

Enzo’s uneasiness was not going unnoticed. The three of them smirked at Enzo shifting from foot to foot as he waited for them to explain what they meant.

"Remy is a Lycan. We’ve heard that she is a Meta Wolf. Which is just as rare as Kaida being a Plasma," Beckett told him.

"And she has a mouth on her. Though she has the fighting skills to back up the mouth, so she can certainly get away with it," Arlo continued.

"Then there is Azulia, an Aether Faerie," Esen recounted. "That girl and her magic is why the island is prospering the way it is now. Her garden feeds most of the island, and her clothing shop is the best place to go. If we didn’t rule this place, she would because the entire island is indebted to her."

"Don’t forget that she partnered with Adrien," Beckett added.

"Who is Adrien?"

Beckett walked over to a tree and leaned himself on it. "The High Priestess’s daughter of the most powerful Witch coven. Her power is ridiculous. I think we all stay on her good side because she could probably wipe us all off the planet if she wanted to."

"Jeez. Is that all of them?"

"No," the three of them said in unison, their faces taking on a more serious appearance.

How all three of them were able to speak at once was a little unnerving. Enzo had never seen three friends close enough to do that.

"Okay, so who is the other?"

"Sundrei. She is a Solar Vampyre. I’m fairly sure she was the next to reign on the Solar side of the Vampyre kingdom until she was rejected. If I were that guy, I’d be terrified of her returning someday. She’s kind of quiet and keeps to herself, but I’ve seen her bad side. She doesn’t know it, but I watched her explode into a million damn bats after screaming her heart out after she came here. It was frightening." Arlo shivered for a second after he gave the details on the Vampyre.

"Let me get this straight," Enzo started, "Kaida, who seemed to be a loner when I met her, has aligned herself with four extremely powerful supernaturals?"

The three of them nodded. No one seemed to feel the same way Enzo did. This could mean that Kaida had put herself in a position to change the world. If all four of those girls rose to power in their kingdoms, they could all support the changes needed for there to finally be peace amongst the kingdoms.

"Yes. Arguably, the most powerful supernaturals on the island aside from ourselves and Kaida. If you think going against us would be bad, go against those girls. I think they would all put us into the ground over Kaida and not think twice about it. It’s why we became their friends instead. Well...we are talking to them now. We left them alone for the most part until Kaida came around."

Beckett mentioning going against these friends made him realize how perfect Kaida really was. If she could create the right connections with other supernaturals, she could also build the right bridges elsewhere.

"Is that the only place she would run to?"

Beckett seemed to ponder that question. Then he made a face and nodded. "I think she would feel safest there. Those girls helped her from the moment she stepped foot here. We found her with them right after you dropped her on that beach. It’s also the only place I imagine her dragon would let her go and shift back to her human form."

"Wait. Kaida found them right after I left?"

"Yes," Beckett answered him. "It was like a beacon, and they all went right to her. They’ve all found each other like that. Right after the first two came here, they found the others. They all live with each other, too. Kaida stayed with them until I had her move in with me."

Enzo sighed. There was something about going to Kaida while with these friends that had him trembling a little. He was already an ass for rejecting her. Now, within the first few minutes of coming to get her, he’d made her so upset that she shifted and flew away from him. If her friends were protective of her like the three Elemental Princes say, would he be able to say anything to Kaida without them stepping between them? What if they convinced her to continue with the rejection and not allow him to fix his mistakes?

Fix this. Now.

Do you understand that we must share her with others if I fix this?

I don’t care what needs to be done. She is our mate. If we need to share her, even to have a piece of her love, then so be it. She is ours. We should be doing whatever it takes to keep her with us.

I guess it could be worse. These men do seem to care for her deeply.

As they should if they are her mates. We cared once, too. We let her slip through our fingers. We cannot allow that to happen again.

Enzo sighed. "Will you take me to her? I feel like I need to apologize…again."

Beckett laughed, and the other two followed. "Sure, but prepare yourself."

Oh, I am.
