Chapter 28
Twenty-Eight
Blaze
The moment the orange glow of the sun rising woke Blaze up as it came through his window. The warmth of the rays filtering through the glass made him hum as it fed into his magic. The boost from it gave him the energy he needed to get out of bed. It sucked sometimes being an Ember Dragon for this reason. When the sun rose for the day, so did they due to how Elemental Dragon’s magick worked. With him needing fire to replenish his magic, the sun was a good way to fill up the well inside of him. The only good part about it was that he could create a fire if he had enough magick left, and the fire he started could fill his well.
Storm Dragons being more powerful, my ass. I could light them on fire and replenish my magick while watching them burn.
Without caring too much about his experience since today was supposed to be another day of training with Kaida, Blaze threw on a loose-fitted t-shirt and jeans. He walked down the stairs and into the kitchen to search for something to eat. He shuddered as he opened a cabinet and only pots and pans were inside of it. Blaze’s dragon let out a throaty chuckle at the memory of the last time he tried to make himself food.
Shut up. I at least cooked for myself.
And had to clean up every wall and surface because of how badly it went.
At least I know I don’t need no chick to cook me a meal.
The Ember Dragon growled at the remark, it is a blessing to be given a mate. NOT a death sentence.
Blaze ignored him as he opened another cabinet above the refrigerator to find some sugary cereal. As he bowled himself a bowl of Lord Munch and Berries, a cereal he had eaten since he was a kid, Blaze thought of how Kaida nearly killed them with just a blast from her magick. It didn’t make much sense to him whether her magick was purple or that powerful before her dragon even emerged. There was no report that he had ever read where those two things aligned in history.
How the hell can she be so powerful when she is Grounded?
Arlo mentioned when they returned home that there was a chance that she was an entirely new breed of dragon. Blaze disagreed due to knowing that there were only six breeds of dragons. Plasma died out long ago and never returned. From his understanding, there was slim to no chance of Plasma returning with hundreds of years of generations showing no indication it was in anyone’s blood. Dragaal kept extensive records and even tested children’s blood upon birth to be sure of it. The Record Keeper even did this to the Elemental children and the families are given copies of the results. Blaze may not have had Kaida’s results, but it would be the talk of the entire dragon population if she had Plasma inside of her blood.
So, what the hell is she?
Usually, any mention of Kaida’s name made Blaze’s blood boil. That changed when he witnessed the power that she had. The way the light hit her, the smirk Kaida wore when she knew her magick came to life, the way she carried herself throughout the entire fight. He allowed his hatred for Storm Dragons to ruin the way he looked at her. Kaida was a powerful dragon that could assist them on their path to claiming the throne.
Especially with her hating her ex-mate.
Blaze at least knew that Kaida didn’t want the throne, so he didn’t need to think of drastic ways of getting rid of her. He hated the way that his brother, Beckett, looked at her. All through their life, all four of them would casually date, but nothing ever too serious. There was no time for that in their plans. All four of them wanted to change their world by rising to power. Once they conquered their kingdom, then they could think of settling down. A mate and kids would get in the way of that.
I guess Beckett didn’t get the memo.
While he ate, Blaze heard Beckett’s gait walk down the stairs and then out the door. Blaze looked over at the clock and realized that he was caught up in his thoughts that it was now around eleven in the morning. The only plan they had for the day was to keep training Kaida, and that wasn’t even on the agenda until that afternoon.
So… where the hell is he going?
Arlo stepped into the kitchen and grabbed the box of cereal that Blaze had left out on the counter. Blaze was still sitting at the table, staring at nothing while he was focused on his thoughts.
“Where did Beckett go?”
Blaze snorted, “Who the fuck knows. Probably to go kiss Kaida’s ass because we still whooped her ass yesterday even with her magick being unlocked.”
“Well, the mate bond will make it hard for him to not want to be around her.”
“You believe that shit? There is no way Kaida is Beck’s mate. I don’t care that he got all huffy the other day about her. That could still just be because he is infatuated with her.”
“Doubtful. He can’t even bring himself to use his magick fully during training on her. You can’t harm your own mate.”
“He still nearly drowned her.”
Arlo shook his head, “that was an accident. He has told me a few times that he wished there was another way to bring out her dragon because he couldn’t stand watching her go through everything we throw at her.”
“Bullshit. He is playing you, so you’ll ease up on her.”
Arlo sighed but didn’t continue the conversation. Instead, he ate his cereal while reading through the paper. Blaze already knew that Arlo wasn’t going to continue the conversation if he was reading the paper. It was his “tell” to them that he was done.
Esen didn’t make his way down the stairs, so Blaze decided to go complete a round of surveillance. The barrier around the island was impenetrable, for the most part, unless it was the mates coming back for those they rejected or the new mates they found on the island to go back to their kingdom. There were still some assholes that tried to break the barrier to get to their kingdoms, and Blaze hated when he had to drag their asses back.
When I took over to be a ruler of this land, I didn’t sign up for this shit.
Blaze’s dragon shook off the last of the magick before flapping its large red wings. It didn’t take many flaps before they were at the perfect height to do a scan of the lands. Blaze hated to admit this to anyone, but he did enjoy the landscape from his view above. To see the way the land weaved in forest on the outskirts and large hills that were high in altitude in the middle of the ocean was astounding.
And the fun part… it is like The Great Dragon created this place just for us Elementals.
There was a place for every Elemental within the island, and even perfect places for the other species to live here without it being too much of a shock. Blaze didn’t read up on much of the other species’ entities that they worshiped, but he hoped that this land gave them the same feelings as it did to him.
As soon as Blaze finished his circling around the perimeter, he noticed Beckett’s wings gliding through the air below him. Blaze took a dip in altitude to see what was up. Inside of his arms was Kaida, and she was clutching him as close as she could. Blaze’s dragon growled possessively at the sight of it.
What the hell is wrong with you?
She should be holding onto us like that.
Fuck that. She needs to get her dragon to come out so we can start working on our plan to take over Dragaal.
Blaze watched Beckett fly right to their home and rush inside. Blaze’s dragon slowly allowed their form to glide down toward the house. As he did, Blaze wanted to send a jet of flames to Beckett’s section of the house. He could hear Kaida’s moans as if he was in the room with them. A tugging inside of his chest pulled him toward Beckett’s window. Blaze yelled at his dragon to ignore the feeling and to fly away from the house because he didn’t want to hear Beckett having sex. The tugging became stronger the closer he got to the house, and Blaze felt the notion to run. The last thing he needed right now was to catch a glimpse of his best friend pounding away at a girl. It was sort of a rule in the house to never just walk into each other’s rooms or fly around their windows. A general rule of thumb so that would never happen.
Ignoring every sensation of the tugging inside of his chest, Blaze pushed on the bond with his dragon to force the shift back into his form. As he did, Blaze heard Kaida sounding as though she was either being murdered or having the orgasm of her life. His dick twitched inside of his pants at the sound of it. Blaze ignored the feeling and stomped his way into the house. Arlo and Esen were trying to leave the house when he reached the door.
“What the fuck? He didn’t even give a warning that he was bringing her back here?”
Esen shook his head, “Dude, when he landed I saw his scales coming through. He almost lost control.”
“Which means, Kaida’s touch is the only thing keeping him from destroying everything right now.”
Here he goes with that mate shit again. “She is probably the reason why he almost lost control in the first place!” Blaze gritted his teeth.
Arlo shook his head, “let it the fuck go, man. Kaida is his mate. Get the fuck over it, or you’ll lose him. Is that what you want? Losing a brother over a chick that is his mate?”
Blaze wasn’t sure how to answer. He could feel his blood boiling like lava inside of a volcano that was about to blow. He absolutely hated that Kaida had this much influence over Beckett.
He went to open his mouth to answer Arlo, but something caught his attention on the stairs. Kaida was in one of Beckett’s shirts; it reached the middle of her thighs to cover everything. Her hair was a complete mess, but the grin she wore made his heart skip a beat. Blaze managed to cage the feeling that began to bubble inside of his chest when he smelled Beckett’s scent mixed with hers. It was quickly replaced with the boiling anger that he had before, and he allowed his power to radiate off him. It hit Kaida within seconds, and it caused her face to fall when her eyes landed on him.
This ends now.
Blaze stomped over to Kaida, grabbed her by the wrist, drug her out of the house, and he shifted back into his dragon. Kaida remained inside his grasp as he climbed the altitude once again.
I am done with this girl fucking everything up. First, making Beckett lose his damn mind. Then convincing him to make her his! He has lost sight of the reason why her dragon needed to be unlocked! The only way to fix this shit is by making her go away.
Blaze wasn’t her mate, so he couldn’t fly her through the barrier and drop her ass back in Dragaal. The only other logical answer was to drop her and let her fall to her death.
Yeah, because her being a distraction needs to go.
