HARLEY

A nother Sunday and another brunch with my girl Aria. We’d been at RISE -our local brunch spot for most of the morning, and we were already on mimosa number four.

“I can’t believe you kissed him and it wasn’t even a date!” I shrieked when Aria recounted her time filming the music video with the band.

“Honestly, it was the hottest kiss ever… and it didn’t stop there!” she giggled before giving me all the details of the filming and the time she’d spent with Jax since.

“Okay, now I understand where you’ve been and why you haven’t been answering my calls, you little slut!” I joked.

Aria blushed and hid behind her mimosa. “Okay, enough about me, though. Tell me about you and Ace!”

I shrugged. “Not as good as you guys.” I muttered. “I’m just not that sure he’s into me.”

“According to Jax, you’re absolutely wrong. Ace really likes you.” Aria answered, digging in to her pancakes.

“At first, I thought he was just looking for a good time, a quick romp in the sheets or whatever, but then… he like, didn’t even try to kiss me. So yeah… I don’t know. Honestly, the whole date was weird. He picked me up in his limo with the driver and all and we ended up going back to his place. He cooked and…”

“Wait! Hold up! He cooked?” Aria asked incredulously. “What the hell are you even questioning? He’s totally into you if he cooked.”

“Maybe… hadn’t really considered that.” I shrugged.

Aria put her cutlery down and stared me right in the eyes. “Harley! No guy actually wants to cook. Especially not a rock star!”

“The why didn’t he try to kiss me?” I cried. “I was even wearing a matching bra and panties set! You know I only make sure they match if I’m gonna get lucky!” I whined.

Aria broke out into a deep belly laugh. “You’re crazy, girl! You can’t even see when a guy really likes you. Have you heard from him since?”

Frustration was getting old quickly. “What since? This was two days ago!”

Aria took a bite of her pancakes and nodded. “You’ll hear from him by today, mark my words.” She winked.

“Whatever.” I shrugged, digging into my eggs Benedict.

“Tell me more about Jax. At least we know he’s a sure thing!” I continued, needing to change the topic.

Aria giggled. “Honestly, it’s crazy… never in a million years did I think this could be something, but I’m wondering if it is. Anyway, I’m heading over there after brunch. He said he has something super important to tell me but wants to say it in person, not over the phone.”

I waggled my eyebrows at her. “Can’t wait to hear what that is!”

“Same here!” Aria grinned. Then she paused, opened her mouth to speak, but then seemed to change her mind.

“What is it, babe?” I asked between bites.

Aria took a deep breath. “I have to ask H… what do you really want out of this thing with Ace?”

Leaning back in the chair, I really took in her words and pondered her question. What did I want?

“I’m only asking…” Aria continued, “because it seems like you might have… feelings and honestly, Harley, I’ve never known you to have actual feelings for a guy. But this is Ace Novak, so maybe that’s what I’m catching on to?”

I groaned. “You know Aria, I wanted to talk to you for about this so much over the past few days, but now I’m just feeling kind of defeated about the whole thing. At first, I was beyond excited to go on a date with Ace. And yes, maybe it was a fan girl thing at first. But after being alone with him one on one… he’s really sweet and kinda shy even. I think he’s had past issues with women before, especially girls he meets at concerts and stuff. So maybe he’s a little cautious? But no… I think, I think I could actually like him. If I had the chance.” I whispered.

A look of shock crossed Aria’s face. “Damn girl… I didn’t think that could happen to you!” she exclaimed. “In all the years I’ve known you, you’ve never said you had feelings for anyone.”

“Shocking, right?” I grinned. This was definitely brand-new territory for me.

“Okay, I’m officially terrified.” Aria said. “We’re going to need more than mimosas!”

Laughing, I called the waitress over and ordered a large pitcher of sangria. “It’s only 11am but we have boy problems.” I explained to her.

“No problem, ladies!” she said. “I’ve had my own boy problems. I’ll get you that sangria in just a minute. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back!” she winked at us.

Day drinking. It was the only acceptable way to deal with boy problems.
