EPILOGUE
Present Day
“Please tell me that you’re really not going to end it there,” Jamie mumbled hollowly as she sat there, hoping beyond hope that this was a joke.
“I’m afraid that’s all the time that we have for today, Miss Abbot,” Sebastian Bradford said with a heavy sigh and a sad shake of his head as though it pained him to do this to her.
“I still have no idea what happened between you and Mikey,” Jamie said, watching as Sebastian stood up and made his way to his desk.
“The story about our first kiss wasn’t enough?” Sebastian asked, sending her a questioning look as he picked up a file off the stack closest to him.
“No! I want to know what happened when she came back from training camp. Did Nicole’s friends do anything to get back at Mikey? Did she ever end up playing against Coach Dilmore? Why didn’t you take her to the gala? What happened to Cole and Chloe? Her uncle? Did anyone ever find out that he’d abandoned Chloe and Katie? What about Braxton’s parents? Why didn’t you tell him that they were back? Where is he now?” Jamie asked, struggling to wrap her mind around everything.
“That’s because their story really didn’t begin until the next year,” Sebastian murmured absently as he shifted his focus to the file in his hands. “That’s when the story really gets interesting.”
“But...”
“Do you know the bakery on Franklin Street?” Sebastian asked as he made his way around the large desk and sat down.
“I can find it,” Jamie said, having a bad feeling where this was going.
“They have the best donuts and apple fritters in the city,” Sebastian said as he tossed the file on the desk and reached for a pen.
“But-”
“Do you remember the rules, Miss Abbott?”
“Yes,” Jamie mumbled weakly.
“Then, I’ll see you tomorrow,” Sebastian said while Jamie found herself wondering how she was going to survive another twenty-four hours before she found out what happened to the little pain in the ass.
