Recipe Bonnie’s Brownies
RECIPE: BONNIE'S brOWNIES
My husband had a paper plate hanging on his fridge for several years before we moved in together and the paper plate was moved to a three-ring binder that held all our recipes. On this paper plate, in code, was his mother's magical brownie recipe. (Not that kind of magical!) No matter what you did with the ingredients or how you ended up mixing things, it always turned out perfectly.
We still have this paper plate!
Ingredients:
1 stick butter (1/2 c)
4 oz semi-sweet baker's chocolate
1 c white sugar
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
3/4 c flour
1/4 c raisins*
1/4 c chopped nuts (walnuts are best!)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8x8 or 9x9 baking pan.
Melt butter and chocolate. Cool slightly (so you don't cook the eggs!).
Beat in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Mix in flour until smooth.
Stir in raisins and nuts.
Pour batter into baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes. Top should be slightly dry and crinkly, and a toothpick should come out clean.
Cool before cutting.
Best served with vanilla ice cream!
*Raisins in this recipe are an extremely divisive topic. They may be omitted in the interest of familial peace.
