3. Kian

Kian noticed Toven and Mia heading his way with Negal and Margo. He hadnt been introduced to her yet, but hed seen her dancing with Negal last night, and then the two had gone outside and hadnt returned. Today though, they had put on a show, and he had gotten a good look at her.

She was very pretty, but that wasnt what had impressed him about her. What warmed Kians heart was the way she looked at Negal. It was obvious that she was smitten by the god, which wasnt surprising, and the feeling seemed mutual.

Hopefully, the Fates would be merciful and grant the two a happy ending. It would be a shame if Margo turned out to be just a plain mortal.

Had they begun the process?

Getting induced by a god was Margos best bet, and if it didnt work, there would be no point trying with anyone else. They would get their answer about her sooner rather than later, which was good. The fewer memories she accumulated of their world, which would have to be later thralled away, the better.

Margo is beautiful, Syssi said. Mia and Frankie didnt mention how gorgeous their friend is.

Her friends are both attractive females. Amanda plucked a chocolate-covered strawberry off the platter. So, they probably didnt even see that. She took a bite of the strawberry and moaned. This is so good. I need Onidu to get the recipe from the dessert chef. She looked at Kian. Is there a chance we can lure the kitchen crew to move to the village?

He shrugged. We can try, although I had a different proposition for them in mind.

Do tell. Amanda took another strawberry.

Ill tell you about it later. He rose to his feet and waited for the group to reach the table before offering his hand to Margo. Welcome aboard, Margo.

She took his hand and dipped her head. Thank you for having me, and an even bigger thank you for saving me and my friend from the cartel.

Youre welcome. He let go of her hand. How are you doing? I bet your head is spinning from all youve learned.

It is, but at least its all good. She offered him a bright smile. Im so glad to finally be proven right. For years, Ive been telling everyone who cared to listen that the governments of the world are hiding contact with aliens from the public. And now I know its true.

Kian chuckled. I hate to disappoint you, but the governments dont know about us, and if they have contact with some other aliens, we dont know about them.

Margos face fell. Well, at least I have proof that aliens exist. She turned to look at Negal. Im dating one.

Yay! Amanda clapped her hands. Thats wonderful. A god is your best chance of successful transition.

My thoughts exactly, Toven said.

Margos cheeks turned crimson. If you dont mind, I would rather change the subject.

Sorry, Amanda said with a smirk. I didnt know that you were bashful.

Margo frowned. I prefer to describe myself as reserved.

Same here. Syssi lifted her hand. Amanda makes me blush about twenty times a day every day, and Ive known her for years.

Amanda pretended to pout. You make me sound so bad.

Thats because you are bad. Syssi mock-glared at her.

Kian realized that he hadnt introduced his table companions yet. This is my sister Amanda, next to her is her husband Dalhu, and this lovely lady is my wife, Syssi.

Nice to meet you all. Margo put a hand over her chest. I just hope that I wont have to forget you soon. I would very much like to become part of your world, and not just to become immortal. I would love to become part of the biggest conspiracy on the planet.

As everyone laughed, Kian regarded the young woman with curiosity. He found her likable and wondered whether it was just that he enjoyed her unconventional personality or if there was an affinity at play.

He could never tell the difference between normal feelings of friendliness toward people and affinity for Dormants.

I wish we were the biggest conspiracy on the planet, Syssi murmured. We also thought that we were the biggest deal around until not too long ago, but now weve discovered conspiracies so big that they dwarf our secretive existence.

Margos eyes sparkled with interest. What could be bigger than the existence of the gods and their descendants among humans?

Evidently, Negal hadnt told her about the threat of the Eternal King, and Kian appreciated that. The council had been informed, but he had asked them not to spread the news. There was no reason to alarm the entire clan. But that wasnt even the biggest secret. The Anumati queen communicating with Annani with the help of the telepathic twins was the biggest one of all, but Negal didnt know about it, and he was not going to find out.

Kian still hadnt told Syssi about the first session being tomorrow after the wedding ceremony. The queen could only hold the telepathic meeting at one oclock in the morning local time, which meant that he and Aru would have to sneak away while everyone else was still celebrating. Perhaps Syssi could advise him on how to excuse his and Arus absence so it wouldnt look suspicious.

There is always a bigger fish, Syssi said with a smile.

Indeed. He nodded and added, Enjoy the rest of your night.

Thankfully, Margo understood from his tone of voice that no further questions should be asked about the subject.

Thank you. She returned his smile. Im afraid that this feeble human is tired and needs to go to bed. It was very nice to meet all of you. She dipped her head. Good night and thank you again for saving me and hosting me aboard this lovely ship.
