Chapter 9

After Colter's turn in the bathroom, he left the light on, closed the door most of the way, and turned off the rest of the lights. He rounded to his usual side of the bed and slid under the covers.

Neither Colter nor Bridger were the sort of men to sleep naked, so the shorts weren't out of the ordinary. However, the woman between them keeping them from brushing against each other might prove frustrating.

Summer was on her back, shivering even though she should have been warm under the covers.

Colter rolled onto his side, facing her, and eased up against her. He reached across to grab Bridger's hand and tug him so he would do the same on her other side. Sandwiching her, he threaded his fingers with Bridger's and set their combined hands on her tummy.

He leaned in and kissed her temple. "You're safe. Sleep, honey."

"He'll find me. He'll know I'm not obeying you," she said.

Bridger scooted even closer. "You are obeying me. Did I tell you to sleep in a bed?"

"Yes," she whispered.

"When have you disobeyed me?" Bridger asked. Ingenious. It was warped and fucking batshit, but they had to reach her somehow. If Bridger's method worked, great.

"I… I don't know."

"Let me tell you a secret," Bridger whispered conspiratorially.

Colter snickered. This was going to be good.

"What secret?" she asked.

"Neither of us is going to punish you in any way for disobeying us. Ever. You're a human being who's allowed to make her own choices. You don't have to do what we say. You can eat what you want, pee when you want, wear whatever you want."

She sucked in a breath. "I don't belong to anyone."

"That's right." Bridger leaned over and kissed her cheek.

Thank fuck, they were reaching her again.

"He can't control me anymore."

"Nope. He's not here. He's never going to control you again."

"I don't have to have sex with you if I don't want to."

Colter inhaled sharply. "No. Never, honey. You don't have to have sex with anyone you don't want inside your body."

"I don't have to kneel in front of you or suck your cock."

Colter groaned inwardly. "No. You're never sucking my cock. You're never sucking Bridger's, either. When you're back on your feet, and you decide you want to get your own place and start a fresh life, you can choose whether or not to give blowjobs to men you date, but you won't be doing so with us."

Bridger's eyes went wide.

Colter shot him a look and squeezed his hand. He'd explain later.

"This is not where I expected to be tonight," she murmured so softly it was difficult to hear her. "I visualized many scenarios while I waited for you to come get me from that house. None of them ended with me in a soft, warm bed between two men, still a virgin."

Colter's chest tightened. "You'll remain a virgin as long as you'd like. That's a gift for you to give away. It won't be taken from you, honey. Not by us. Not by anyone."

"Will you let me stay here a few days until I can figure out what to do? I don't have an ID or any money or…anything."

Colter pressed against her stomach. "Honey, you will stay here for months, not a few days. It's going to take time for you to get your head straight. You need counseling—a lot of it. We will not ask you to leave. We're going to help you find yourself. In addition, we're going to do everything in our power to make sure you're safe."

"He's going to find me," she whispered, stiffening between them.

"I don't think he's looking, Summer," Colter reiterated. "He sold you. As far as he's concerned, you're with the man who owns you. It's none of his business what happens now."

Bridger spoke next. "But if he did find you, we would never ever let him take you back. No one can get you here. We will increase our security first thing in the morning."

Colter nodded when Bridger glanced at him. "I'll put a man at the elevator twenty-four-seven. No one will even be able to attempt to enter our home."

Summer gasped. "That would be expensive."

Not as expensive as the private investigator I'm going to hire. "Don't worry about it, honey. Try to sleep."

She fidgeted for several minutes before whispering, "I need my arms over my head."

Currently, her arms were pinned at her sides between them.

Colter drew in a breath. "Let's see if we can find another way for you to be comfortable—a new position. You've been sleeping on your back, spread open in a vulnerable position for a long time. How about you try rolling onto your side? Pull your arms in toward your chest."

Colter helped her roll away from him, so she faced Bridger. He spooned her from behind, willing his cock to behave as he tucked her in close. He clasped both her hands between her breasts. "How's that?" he whispered in her ear.

She was breathing heavily. "It feels like heaven."

He smiled. Thank God. "Good. You deserve heaven."

Bridger set his hand on Colter's hip, his forearm against Summer's hip. "Look at me, baby."

Colter assumed she met his gaze.

"You're safe."

"You made me safe."

"And we will continue to do so. Whatever it takes. Try to sleep."

Finally, her breathing evened out, and she fell into a deep sleep.

Colter forced his body to relax and rest also. It had been a long time since he'd held a woman in his arms or had one in his bed. He was used to spooning Bridger. Summer was so much smaller and softer, with curves that made his mouth water.

He was struggling to remind himself this situation was temporary. She was not theirs to keep. She was very damaged and needed help. Colter needed to remind himself of this over and over. He and Bridger would do everything in their power to help her resume her life, but that life wasn't likely to include the two of them.

Summer had suffered too much abuse to face not one but two men who found her attractive and wanted more from her. Even though Colter knew Bridger felt the same magnetic pull toward her, they needed to keep their pants on and their minds focused. She needed tender-loving care, not pressure, to fall for the first people she met out of captivity.

Bridger was absently stroking Colter's hip. He wasn't sleeping either. He must have been having similar thoughts because he whispered, "She's precious."

"She's not ours."

"I know." He sighed.

What she had done in just a few short hours had caused Colter and Bridger to reevaluate their lives and admit they'd been working too hard and not focusing enough on their relationship. Perhaps they also needed to admit that something had always been missing—or possibly, someone.

Not that they didn't have amazing lives—they did. And Colter loved Bridger to his soul. But as they'd told Summer, they enjoyed women, too. They just hadn't put forth the energy to find the perfect woman to bring into their lives.

He closed his eyes and listened to Summer's soft purring as she slept. Even though she had a long road ahead of her, he felt drawn to her. Physically, she was perfection. Granted, physical qualities only made him do a doubletake. It was what a woman had inside that mattered more.

Why did he get the feeling that he would find out he loved what was inside Summer more and more with each passing hour? It was going to be a struggle to hold her at arm's length and ensure she was making her own choices. They could not pressure her to consider them as life partners.

He worried she might end up suffering from transference if they weren't careful. She might think she was falling for them simply because they'd rescued her. He'd seen it happen to a few people at Roses and Thorns in the past. Women who had joined who were kind of broken from a previous relationship and had fallen in love with the first kind Dom who had treated them with respect.

"You're thinking too loud," Bridger whispered as he slid his hand up to his waist.

Colter chuckled softly. They both needed sleep. Tomorrow was going to be a long day.
