Chapter Six

Terrick

The vampyric wolf with his head pressed to mine smelled so familiar. He was everything I dreamt of. At least, I figured he was because I never wanted to leave him again. I’d never let that horrible woman or her doppelganger man near him, if that’s what it took.

“Can I come out?” I thought at the dog.

His tails wagged quicker, but he didn’t answer me.

“Do you want to shift? Can you?” My mate asked.

I opened my mouth to try to explain that I was working on figuring it out, but the words came out a bark.

The man who had left to lock up the house against the twins, who were both the evil twin from everything I saw, came back down the steps. He walked so that he was between us and the nest before squatting down.

“Scott, I love you, but I need to know how the hell you brought a pit hound here,” the man said.

“I didn’t bring him here, Blithe,” Scott shook his head. “I don’t know how he found me! But he did!”

Scott. The name rolled around my thoughts. I vaguely remembered him as the redheaded one. Was I remembering my time in the Other World before anything happened?

“Is he a real pit hound?” Syre asked.

“Glowing eyes and three tails. Muzzle as long as my forearm,” Blithe nodded.

“This day has taken a turn for the interesting,” Duke said, sitting down in front of his egg.

“He doesn’t want to hurt your egg, Duke,” Scott said.

“We won’t know what he wants until he shifts,” Duke said, crossing his arms. “I love you little cousin. I love you so much, but this is my egg.”

“Cord thinks we should call Starry or Liam,” Blithe said a second later. “I’ll make the call. He’s probably right. At least we need to give Liam a heads up if the twins haven’t managed to find their house yet. I’ll call the Dads too to try to find out what’s going on.”

“Unless Scott wants to tell us why they’re so mad at him,” Duke cut in.

I grumbled and tried to press against the furry walls of the space I was trapped inside. The hound whined but let go of his hold on me.

“That’s it,” Scott whispered, and I followed his voice until I saw a man in blood-stained clothes.

Duke growled and Scott moved so he was between us.

“It’s his blood,” Scott said, stretching out to keep us separated.

“You’re gonna have to clean him up, cousin. I can’t have that mess around the eggs and the babies. You can use one of the upstairs showers and figure out what’s going on,” Duke said.

I pushed myself upright and patted myself down. I couldn’t find the injuries that brought out the blood, but it was my blood. Thirst burnt my throat and the coyote man sighed.

“Get him a bloodshake first,” Syre said. “Get him one and get him clean. If Trista comes back in like that punch her or something.”

“I don’t think she can get back in short of breaking a window or something,” Blithe said.

“I wouldn’t put it past her,” Duke rolled his eyes.

“Help yourself to whatever is in the kitchen you want, brother,” Blithe yawned.
