Chapter Two

“You do know I have a compact car, don’t you?” Faith looks at the line of suitcases over by the door then back at me.

I shrug my shoulders. “Look, you’re the one who planned this trip, so don’t give me any grief about how much stuff I packed. We could’ve very well taken the five day trip.”

“Nonsense. It’s not a real vacation unless we’re gone for a week. We’re not half-assing it, okay? We’re visiting all the ports, not one or two. I might not be able to see out the back window while I’m driving, but we’ll get it all in there somehow.” She looks down at her watch then says, “If we’re going to make it on time, we need to hurry. I’m pretty sure the ship doesn’t wait for passengers who show up late.”

I double check that my birth certificate and driver’s license are in my bag, then slide my purse up on my arm. “Looks like I have everything I need. Come on, let’s get out of here.”

After several minutes of pushing, shoving, and rearranging, there’s hardly any room for the two of us to fit inside Faith’s car. “Oh, Lord,” Faith says, shaking her head. “Are you sure you can ride that way?”

“Just drive. Fast.” I’m not one for complaining about someone else’s driving, but the sooner we can get to the terminal, the better I’ll be. That is, if I can straighten my legs out.
