Chapter 7

As Symonnet sat at his desk in the dimly lit chamber, the weight of the crown upon his brow felt heavier than ever before. The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows upon the parchment before him, illuminating the words of his mothers letter in a haunting glow.

With trembling hands, he unfolded the missive, its delicate pages whispering secrets of distant lands and hidden agendas. His mothers elegant script danced across the page, each word laden with hidden meaning and veiled intentions.

My dearest Symonnet, the letter began, I trust this missive finds you in good health and spirits, though I fear the winds of change are stirring in the shadows of the court.

I have taken the liberty of dispatching a diplomatic envoy to Inor, tasked with the delicate mission of negotiating alliances and securing our interests in the region. Among their number, you shall find familiar faces and trusted allies who will guide you safely home.

And yet, I must caution you, my son, for the currents of intrigue run deep in the heart of the empire. Trust not in the veneer of friendship, for beneath lies treachery and deceit. Keep a watchful eye upon those who seek to manipulate you for their own gain, and remember always the legacy of our blood.

Symonnets mind raced with the implications of his mothers warning, the weight of her words pressing upon him like a leaden cloak. What hidden dangers lurked beneath the surface of his mothers diplomatic overtures? And what role did he play in the deadly game of courtly politics?
