Epilogue

Saphira

“ P oor baby,” I coo, sliding the back of my palm down his cheek. “You must be in pain.” The bound-and-gagged man doesn’t speak. “My new best friend, Heath, told me about you. You are not a nice man.” I step back and walk to the table that holds all sorts of knives.

“I bet you guessed it, but I don’t like men who abuse women. I’ve been there. I didn’t like it. I’m sure your wife didn’t like it.” I pick up a large blade. “A vampire I know taught me all sorts of fun ways to torture. My brothers are not going to be happy with me, but I feel like it’s my mission in life to kill all the men who abuse their power.

“You are bigger than your wife, stronger, and I heard about the mental abuse, too.” I twist the knife back and forth as I walk toward him. “Heath let me borrow this building for the night.” I look around the damp room. “It’s not the homiest place, but I suppose it serves my purpose.” I tap his forehead with the tip and a red dot appears. “Are you upset that a woman is going to kill you?” I tilt my head at the muffled shout. “That was probably a yes.” My lips curve. “I’m sure you are hating life right now.”

I move behind him. “Your wife was in bad shape. Did you know they had to shave part of her hair to stitch up her head?” I yank his head back, grasping his hair and pulling it tight. “I wish I had some clippers, but this will have to do.” I saw through his hair as close to his scalp as possible. “She said it wasn’t the first time.” I drop the hair and peek around his side. “I’ve never been good at cutting hair. I hope you like it.” He thrashes, trying to move away.

“Did you know I’m a dragon shifter?” I ask, circling him. “Probably not, as you are human. I could light you on fire and be done with it. Although, the smell would be awful.” I pinch my nose. “Burning flesh isn’t fun for either of us,” I say, my voice squeaky. “I prefer making it last as long as possible, with as little stink as possible.”

I pick up a different knife; it’s long but curved at the end.

“My vampire friend just found his mate. I’m really happy for them, so I’m in a good mood, so I might not cut off your cock.” I hold the knife to my lip. “But your wife told us how you didn’t respect the word no.” I scrunch up my nose. “Something to think about. I have time to decide.” I stroll back to him.

“I wonder if the universe has someone picked out for me? They would have to work to gain my trust.” I point the knife at him. “It’s not hard to be a good man, is it? Oh, shit, look who I’m asking.” I roll my eyes.

“Well, whoever it is, better be willing to join me in my mission.” I lean forward, whispering in his ear, “I won’t stop sending sick fucks like you to hell.” I thrust the knife into his thigh, and he yells. I strike fast: knee, thigh, calves. “Do you feel powerful now?”

I wipe the knife delicately on his shirt.

“My mate will have to be tempting. I won’t settle for anything but the best.”
